I am out in the cold wind .. going door to door to urge registered Democrats to get out and vote .. here is what I generally find.
1) The voter is a young 20 something Democrat -- who still have listed their parents home as their address.
2) They are not home.
3) Their parents are Republicans

(6,377 posts)For me, it's
1. Not home/don't want to answer the door
2. The person at that address on my sheet is a woman, but her husband answers the door and refuses to let me talk to her.

Folks totally unaware of the issues that effect them, blissfully ignorant.
Well,I can't make up my mind. Registered Democrat and you can not figure it out.
Here is a real killer, both sides do it.
That isn't what they say on Fox News.

(4,305 posts)when I answer the door. It says:
Yes- I am registered
Yes- I plan to vote
-Republicans: I have nothing nice to say to you. If you are on the ballot please thank the GOP, McConnell & Grassley for waking me up. My split ticket voting days are over and it appears you have received my last vote EVER!
The White House is CORRUPT
The GOP is ignoring and enabling it and is CORRUPT
-Democrats- Need I say more?
It is great watching AFP peeps and R peeps back walk the walkway to my house.

(389 posts)Broward county. Repigs dont understand that political canvassing is legally protected speech. Some cops too. My group had the cops called on us several times this weekend. On Sunday we were proactive and called the police in advance to let them know where and when we were going to be. Still had police come and demand IDs and documentation.
Seems like they want to live in Saudi or something.
It only fired up our group.
edit: all the Dems we canvassed were going to vote straight D or already have.

(4,492 posts)I've taken many of the frustrating things while canvassing and made a 'canvasser bingo' game of it (I give away Halloween candy as prizes).
Some examples
Apartment complex
Young child answers the door
Mixed political marriage
Someone is clearly home but won't answer the door
Spouse tries to identify for voter
Dog barks at you
Cooking/eating dinner

"Oh my God thank you so much for what you're doing this is just wonderful that people are knocking on doors...."
Yeah, sorry, lady: thanks for your support, and if you're not a conversion I need to get moving.

(24,221 posts)What I learned while canvassing for votes is...
1) A driveway can have 4 cars in it and they are still "not home."
2) A garage door can close and they are still "not home."
3) A kid can be heard yelling "door" and they are still "not home."
4) Everyone has a door camera now.
