A US flag, a confederate flag, and a Christian flag with a single cross mounted on a house. What would be your guess about the person who lived there? I saw this and it is especially disturbing to me. I am curious to see how many people jump to the same conclusions I did.

(39,154 posts)Driving through rural PA once, I saw a tavern with a Confederate flag flying and a sign that read "heritage, not hate." Yes, in PA, which fought for the Union. Anyway, I read it as "whites only."

(13,390 posts)Not exactly a bastion of hate groups. But MO is also not the most progressive state, either.

(34,179 posts)While not a bastion of hate groups, we have our fair share. Not to mention bigots, racists and white supremacists in large numbers, especially in southern Missouri. Kansas City is also a pretty conservative large city, much more so than cities further east, even St. Louis.

(13,390 posts)Actually my first thought was a Christian Identity group.
Not sure how this got started. The logic for the confederate flag was that we had ancestors from the south who fought in the civil war. I don't buy it.

Edit for P.S. Possibly racist but not necessarily so.

(13,390 posts)There is also a Gasden flag in the garage. I am seriously wondering and worried about what my dad has been up to and who he has been hanging out with.
edit to add
This is in Missouri. The northern most Southern state.

(23,155 posts)...is this a neighbor? "Well, you can fight 'em with conventional weapons--it could take years, and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part..."

(13,390 posts)The confederate flag has been around for awhile. The Christian flag is new. There are actually some confederate flags around inside the house, too.
My own futile effort would be to boycott family gatherings.

(45,274 posts)although their crosses are horizontal. Nevertheless, they are Christian crosses as one is supposed to have appeared in a vision in the sky to a Danish king as a sign of his impending victory in combat.
That was probably the last battle ever won by the Danes.

(13,390 posts)I guess there would be no problem getting a hate crime enhancement if the owner ever committed a crime against a person of color.
