i have a hunch they focus-group tested the word "caravan"

they're really pushing that term.

it's not a "group"?
or a "bunch of people"?
or even a "convoy"?

no, the right-wing is really good at branding. part of that is repeating a name and loading it up with whatever narrative or emotional baggage you want to attach to it, then keep repeating that name over and over again.

as usual, they're reducing "democracy" to a well-timed, well-crafted irrelevant advertising blitz.
yeah, let's decide how to govern the entire complex workings of government for the next two years based on manipulated, visceral reactions to the notion that a couple hundred people a few countries away might want to come live in america. oooh, verry scaaary!

It has been my thought for the past few days that they are trying to saddle these refugees with exactly the same negative connotations as they had historically done with Romani. Glad I'm not the only one who sees it.

Travelers, Roma, dark, swarthy, transients, living-by-their-wit outcasts on the fringes as opposed to white, gun luvin, bible thumping, walmart working 'muricans.

More fear mongering by the fearful.

They linked the two together here. They are piggybacking on what they have felt - that the Kavanaugh hearings and his ultimate confirmation - gave a shot in the arm to the Repugs.

Hence we have 'Caravan and Kavanaugh' being Trump's and the Repugs battle cry for the Midterms. Mostly because their 'tax plan' didn't work for them.

And the day after the election you never heard that word mentioned again on Fox and right wing media.
