CNN's Weir on Trump's Migrant Caravan Claim: We've Been Playing 'Spot the Middle Easterner' for Days

CNN’s Weir on Trump’s Migrant Caravan Claim: We’ve Been Playing ‘Spot the Middle Easterner’ for Days and Found Nothing

by Ken Meyer | Oct 23rd, 2018, 12:08 pm

CNN’s Bill Weir says he can’t find any proof for President Donald Trump‘s claim about the refugees approaching the U.S. Southern border.

The president is pushing an evidence-free claim that “unknown Middle Easterners” are integrating themselves with the migrant hoard in the supposed hope of illegally gaining entry to America. When pressed on this yesterday, Trump insisted that reporters should “go into the middle of the caravan, take your cameras, and search” for the alleged Middle Easterners and suspicious figures mixed in with the refugees.

Weir obliged. He’s been traveling with the Central American migrants for the last few days now. And — speaking with Kate Bolduan on Tuesday — the correspondent reported that he has no idea what Trump is talking about. This led to Weir questioning the reasoning of Trump Administration officials who insist the president is right about how far suspected terrorists would go to gain illegal access to the country.

“We have been playing ‘Spot the Middle Easterner’ for a couple days now and have yet to turn up any…We all know the dog whistle implied in the Middle Easterner line. Not to argue with Vice President Mike Pence, he may believe what he says, but what seems inconceivable is some terrorist would fly to the very southern tip of Mexico and then walk for a couple months through the searing heat when they can just fly to the United States the way the 9/11 hijackers did. So, you know, I think politics, this fearmongering, sort of fomenting the terror of the stranger is as old as politics itself.”

Weir noted the current impact of the caravan, as well as the fact that many of the migrants can’t help the political implications of it when they’re too desperate to think about anything beyond their situation.

“They don’t have the luxury of weighing American politics into a decision when it’s like they’re running from a burning building,” Weir said.

to make it worth the effort to lie so brazenly and so publically.

WTF is wrong with people in this country that this kind of blatant racist propaganda actually WORKS?
How fucking stupid are they and does it hurt them physically to be so goddamn dumb?

I just want to move to another country and watch the demise of this shithole country from a safer distance...
