I took a couple pictures as I drove through Squirrel Hill today on my way home from work....

I had to stop at the post office on the way home from work today (I work 1.5 miles from Tree of Life) and I had to drive right past the Synagogue.

I've made this drive countless times.... but today felt different. Surreal. This first picture is right across the street from Tree of Life.

This second picture is a block away at the landmark Manor theater.

But the best picture that shows what "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" is all about is this one taken by someone else:

(For those that don't know... Fred Rogers lived about 3 blocks from Tree of Life. It was literally Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.)

Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. Looks like that little boy found one of the helpers who Mr. Rogers’ mom advised him to look for in a time of trouble.

It reminds me of the "Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy" skits on SNL.

But Pittsburgh is as strong a place as I’ve ever known. Y’all will, I’m sure, find a way to bring good forth through the tragedy.

Which is right across the street from Tree of Life Synagogue. I used to walk past it all of the time when I was in school. My dad was the principal at Taylor Allderdice HS back in the '80s, too. Another friend of mine attends another synagogue about 1/2 mile away. I have a lot of love for Squirrel Hill, even though I moved to Washington DC over 30 years ago. I'm just torn up about this.

She was in the library working on a project with a classmate when the shooting started and they were all told to shelter in place and the campus was in lockdown for a couple hours.

I was in Shadyside when the shooting took place. I didn't know what was happening but saw and heard sirens all around. My heart is broken for our town.

The Pittsburgh Police might want to use that photo and give you credit for it. Yes I know that neighborhood in Squirrel Hill but I haven't been there recently. I live on the Northside.

Thanks for sharing these great photos!
