My take on the reason Trump is banging on the 14th Amendment

He knows he can't change it. But changing it isn't the point. The point is to raise the resentment level of his base. And when he can't change it, especially if his attempt is shot down, the base will take it as yet more evidence of an anti-Trump, anti-Amerika, pro-invasion conspiracy. So moar gunz!

the whole point was to throw more red meat to his cult members, who are also dumb enough to believe that.

I'm hoping there aren't enough of them. I know we outnumber them, we just have to out vote them.

Let him rally his base. It's all he has left. Meanwhile, we talk about something everyone cares about - health care

7. it's not that he knows he can't change it -- he doesn't really *care* if he can change it.

it's all about stoking racial hatred, white supremacy, creating a society where rich white christian men are at the top of the heap and everyone else is screwed, one way or another.

being able to deport "others" is part of the vision, but being able to do it *now*, via misinterpretation of the 14th amendment, is not at all critical to the long-term plan.

what he wants to to propagandize and radicalize enough americans so that eventually he will be able to make "others" submit to the will of those at the top of the heap, under threat of death or imprisonment or deportation or whatever.

Ryan didn't help him though, because Ryan realizes it will take more than xenophobes to hold onto the house. I hope it just backfires on Trump "Bigly."

No one really told him he could change an Amendment by EO, he just pulled that out of his ass like most of the garbage he spews.

Keep in mind that every vote that is cast for a Republican on Tuesday will be treated by Trump and his henchmen as full-throated approval of every last bit of cruelty and racism they've been fomenting over the last 22 months. Republicans who win their races by tenths of a percent as well as those who cruise to a gerrymandered win will all claim a mandate to keep doing what they're doing, and worse.

If you're appalled by the Republican shenanigans, but you don't think the Democrats are any better or are ineffectual at opposing the Republican agenda, your vote for a Republican will not reflect your disapproval in any way. Your failure to vote will be taken as silent approval of the Republican crime spree. Your affirmative duty to cast a meaningful vote against the Republicans (viz., a vote for a Democratic candidate, not some third party spoiler) has rarely been greater. Any failure to fight against this hatred and bigotry on every level will be counted as support.
