Every day I hear news of dire conditions. From power outages to water supply shortages to people who are homeless due to the hurricane.
Maybe that's where Trump should send the tents. No sign of Fema.
Thousands Still Homeless in Bay Co. and FEMA Trailers Nowhere to be Found
BAY COUNTY, Fla. - Nearly every day since Hurricane Michael hit our area, people have been asking "when is FEMA going to help?"
A lot of those people had homes destroyed and want the federal agency to provide trailers. Bay County officials are now asking the same questions.
It's difficult for anyone to recover without a roof over their head. FEMA has the ability to deliver trailers to serve as shelters for thousands of Bay County people left homeless. A FEMA spokesperson told News 13 when the trailers arrive is up to the county. Bay County officials said they've already made the request for trailers.
"We've been having daily if not hourly conversations about how can we get these trailers on the ground now," said Assistant Bay County Manager Joel Schubert.

Election problems in the Panhandle may impact election results
More than 150,000 voters in the Panhandle may have a hard time casting their ballot on Election Day.

They lost their homes and if your ballot was sitting on the kitchen table you lost your ballot with it too, Susan Bucher, the Supervisor of Elections in Palm Beach County.
Bay, Gulf, and Jackson counties were hit the hardest, an area that holds almost 160,000 registered voters.

Those three counties usually vote Republican.

(52,344 posts)They say that they are afraid when it gets dark. Here are some quotes from a long statement:
"Many are now living in tent cities in fields next to places like Sams Club."
"There are nearly no existing food stores or places to get gasoline."
"Police are stretched so thin many areas have formed armed citizens groups to stop looters. Several looters have been shot by private citizens already."

(18,828 posts)Food and gas is plentiful. Law enforcement is all over the place! Power has been fully restored to all residences that are able to accept power. I've heard of one looter who tried to steal a cop's car being shot but that's it.

We were hit by Charlie. And if you drove one mile from our house, life looked normal.

(2,904 posts)and my Father-in-law is still down there. Plenty of clean-up left to do, but no "tent cities". Tons of destruction. No armed citizens groups. Plenty of police presence and all stores reopened that were in good enough shape to reopen.
That said, housing is a real problem. Most folks are staying with friends. We have a family of 15 staying at our beach place.
Have not seen FEMA trailers, but FEMA has a presence.
Appreciate the concern, but let's not be the boy who cried wolf.
I'd be curious to see a cite to your bolded quote.

Things are still very rough in many areas, but the biggest concern now for most is getting the internet back. These are tough, resilient people. They are getting help, and they are helping themselves.

And it's clear that they are being ignored on purpose by the media... can't be having a "Puerto Rico? situation happening right here on the mainland just before an election.

(82,849 posts)Which is kind of the problem. Private charities can pitch in and assist in relief efforts, but they're no match and no substitute for the assistance the federal government can muster and render. We used to know that. But too many people decided that because they hadn't personally been affected by a natural disaster that someone else was getting something for free paid by their tax dollars.
Nobody is immune, nobody is 100% safe from being overtaken by a disaster (natural OR man-made). We used to know that, too. But too many people figured that because they or their area hadn't been victimized in a while, it was because of some innate virtue that others didn't possess. Therefore, only losers and the unrighteous were hit by disasters, and didn't deserve help.
And right now, there are people looking at Bay County thinking these very thoughts.

(52,344 posts)Having been hit by one of these, I know first hand what you mean. No one is invested in what is happening, unless it's happening to you.
That's why we need federal assistance in these cases.
