DU Poll: Have you moved or planning to, because of your state going further

and further to the right? I see changing demographics in the states, some pretty far to the right and I was just wondering if DUers might be moving to other states.

But because it's culturally boring. Philly has actual museums, art, and more.

And it's two hours from NYC.

Much of the rest of the state is Alabama. This explains Gov Corbett and Pat Toomey.

Nope. Even the reddest parts of CA are not like the red in other states. For example, anti-choice Republican gubernatorial candidates have no chance here.

And I kind of like the challenge here.

How red, you ask? Two words: Buck McKeon.

I spent Sunday at an event with the widow of the late Pete Knight, who is a conservative icon here. Wonderful lady, and I wouldn't dream of bringing up partisan politics with her. Our only concern was helping her to sit on the edge of the backyard swimming pool so she could relieve her feet in the water.

Also met the leader of the "Tea Party Patriots" in our community. We didn't talk politics, and I didn't have the heart to tell him that his hopes of using a local nonpartisan vets' group in a Tea Party event definitely will not be realized. I chair the relevant committee in the vets' group, and there is no way we'll allow our work to be politicized for partisan purposes.

I can't wait for the Antelope Valley to go blue, but that will take a long time and a lot of work.

from a very large extended family (maternal grandmother had 15 children) that lives in California. It has been my job to hold up the West Coast in their name. And while it may be a huge job I do it well. I'll admit that being 10 miles from Laguna Beach doesn't hurt.

And while I'm in the reddest county in the state (though they call it Orange - go figure) I'm determined to change its color at least to purple some day. So, no, if I moved it would be for some other compelling reason.

In Texas there was only a 11.77% difference between Obama and McCain, which was much less than many of the other red states.
There were 15 red states had a larger margin.

List of 2008 U.S. Presidential results by state here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_u.s._presidential_election#Result

I'll stay right here because Texas is more PURPLE now than red

Santa Fe, to be specific. While there's a lot to like about living here, I won't stay forever. Partly because I will want eventually to live nearer to one or the other of my two sons (I'm turning 64 later this month), and partly because there are things about this state that I'm less than crazy about. Plus, I've lived in a number of other parts of the country, and at some point it will be time to move on and try yet another place to live.

Biggest reasons for moving - more appealing lifestyle, more autonomy in my career, giving my mom her dream of living in the mountains in a log cabin before she goes. Not necessarily in that order.

4.6% unemployment, on the path to single payer, one top hs graduation rates, educated, civic minded citizens. Peter Shumlin as guv, Shap Smith as Speaker of the Vermont House which has a veto proof majority of dems. An actual Progressive Party with members in the VT House.

Winter when you're on crutches sucks, but it's still worth it.

I live in CT and if I ever move it is to another New England state. I can't imagine not living here, especially during the beautiful autumn months and Halloween is the best here. People are sane and most New Englanders just don't care about your personal business. We are called aloof for this but we call it minding our own business.

greatly outweigh the politics of your local area. While my small town is fairly red, my congressional district extends to Tucson and we just elected Ron Barber over Jesse Kelly in the race for Gabby Giffords seat. If I could afford to move, it wouldn't be to another state.

Pennsylvanians tend to have deep roots and stay in the state. Many younger people who leave for economic reasons want to come back, or eventually return if they can.

This, too, shall pass (re: Corbett).
