A few years back I got curious and checked. Abstentions have outnumbered votes for the winner for several decades.

I asked everyone I talked with if he or she were planning to vote Tuesday because I read that being asked is a good predictor of whether people vote. My doctor said absolutely and that she saw this as the most important election of her lifetime so far. Everyone else except one young African American man said she or he definitely would be voting. I hope they do.
