Republicans: Addicted to their own misery.

Listening to MSNBC tonight and they're talking about how Republicans are still bitter, even after winning. I do have many Republican friends, but the ones that seem to be the biggest Trumpers have this personality trait: They are addicted to their own misery. No matter how much you compliment them, they find some ways to perceive things in bleak terms. i.e. "No body has ever said I was beautiful," even after you spent the day telling them they look prettier than Scarlett Johansson.

And, no matter how much you go out on a limb to help them, it's never enough. They're always crying poor mouth, which is why they desperately want that $300 tax return which is tangible, even though they'll pay more for everything else that gets worse because of deregulation. They simply can't conceptualize how the safety nets improve their own lives. They're too busy seeing that those programs will help people they can't relate to.

They run in tight tribal circles, which as far as I can tell, are shrinking.

I always think of my Uncle's conservative friend. He's the perfect example. Always miserable.

And BigmanPigman - Yeah's he's all 5 of those.

Oh well.

They are almost always privileged brats who have no clue about the wider world and lack the curiosity to learn about it.

The vast majority of their wounds are self-inflicted.

Fuck them.

We’ve all known people like this, and nothing satisfies them more than making everyone feel horrible.

So, naturally, the bulk of Republicans are angry and ignorant whether they are in the majority or the minority. It's what sustains them.

It is a strange psychological phenomenon. I also know people with this affliction. They can drive you crazy if you are not knowledgeable that their behavior is not normal.

I hope you are correct and that their "tight tribal circles.....are shrinking."

but today I asked him about the many propositions and amendments on our ballot Tuesday, "I vote 'no' on everything," he said. "But what about the minimum wage?" I said. "Hell, no. Let them earn their way up." "What about the judges?" I said. "I vote 'no' on all of them." Well, you get the idea! Our mothers were sisters, staunch Dems, but he lost his way somewhere.

are prone to be somewhat selfish, self-centered, authoritarian, and tribal in nature. There never seems to enough money and power to satisfy many of them, and it's contagious.

Some of those characteristics didn't shine until I knew them for a while and the extroverts among them can be a pain in the ass.

One of the most predominant characteristics researchers found among right-leaning citizenry was the deeply ingrained need for a rigid authoritarian power structure in their lives from bottom to the top.....from parents to clergy to company officers to politicians, and finally to a god-figure.

I believe psychologist have confirmed most of that in studies........

Locally, it means to them that if there is anything they want or need, they know who to go to ask for it. They don't want a government that is fair to all, because it means that it will stop them from getting something the easy way. Just by asking for it. And all they have to do to get it is to lend their support to someone else who is doing the same thing. Crapping in their own wells.
