The DU website was hacked and crashed on Election Day in 2016. The site went dark for over 24 hours. A few members were deleted but most were saved. The good news is that the "baddies" were found and kicked out. It could/might happen again on Tuesday, so don't panic! That's what this is all about.

If DU goes down, it will get back up as soon as possible. Please be patient and believe that some very good people are working on it.

13. It was weeks, and there is no evidence that it was "baddies" DUers who initiated the attack

(the admins never made that assertion). I also don't recall any abnormal PPRing of DUers after said attack.

I was here during the attack as it was going down and saw the discussion in the aftermath when DU was able to get back online.

I do agree with your last paragraph, though.

15. I was on when it happened

At first I just thought someone was spamming the board with some crazy video. Then I realized it was like a virus that was infecting OPs. Then the whole site went down.

A lot of my journal was lost, as well as others, because it was the only way to completely remove the malicious programming.

I remember something about "Seth Rich" in huge letters on top of pages, and OPs that said "God Emperor" as post titles.

I never saw the video, though... I knew that something was happening and didn't want to click on the OPs for fear of a virus.

Suggest that anyone not currently a star member consider being one because sometimes they have to go into a sort of DEFCON mode here meaning limiting the traffic (removing sig graphics and avatar graphics from view), etc and per Skinner, prioritizing star members for access.
