The Repukes have never changed

The plutocrats have always been selfish, miserable, rotten, snakefucking assholes.

Viz:

Cornelius Vanderbilt: "Law? What do I care for law? Ain't I got the power?"

J.P. Morgan: "I owe the public nothing."

Same old elephant shit, different century.

I can list a dozen moderate to liberal repub senators right off the top of my head, A is Aiken, B is for Brooks, C is for Chafee (father and son). Lowell Weiker, Jim Jeffords, Charles Percy, Mark Hatfield, Robert Stafford.

And this isn't even touching on Governors and reps and mayors or the 19th century.

always been.

Once upon a time my home state of Minnesota had a great tradition of moderate-to-progressive Republicans: Governors like Elmer L. Anderson, Harold LeVander and Arne Carlson, congresscritters like Bill Frenzel and Clark MacGregor, and Senator Dave Durenberger. All solid, sensible people with whom one could disagree in a civil and principled manner that was reciprocated.

The moderates were systematically purged by the bible-bangers between 1990 and 2000. There's not a sane one left among them. Former governors Anderson and Carlson endorsed John Kerry in 2004, and Carlson endorsed Obama in '08 (Anderson passed away in ''06 IIRC).. Durenberger is now an independent.

Oh for the days of Jake Javits, Chuck Percy, Pete McCloskey, Ed Brooke and other sane Republicans. For them the good of the country came before the good of the party.
