Can I rant for a second... :)

A little about myself.... Call it an introduction... Because I'm new to the whole political process...

Tomorrow will be the FIRST time I ever voted... and I'm 47 years old...

It wasn't because I didn't care... I do... just I always felt that common sense would prevail and the collective people that do vote would make the right decision and my vote was but a speck in the whole process..

I grew up in a VERY abusive household... I RAN to the military... The Military offered a much better life then what I was living at the time....

The Military was the BEST move I ever did in life...

To share a story...

When I went to the Military recruiter... I went through Medical... and they declared me fit... I signed the paperwork... and I told my recruiter ONE thing... I said PLEASE... DON'T with a capitol D tell my parents I'm joining the Military...

Guess what this $#@$#@%#% did as soon as I left his office... He CALLED my parents... and let them know Congrats... I'm joining the Military...

I came home to a shitstorm.... My father... bless his soul... He did about $1700 worth of damage to his house... and broke a lamp we as kids loved... it was a cool lamp... It was a sailor lamp... and he threw it through a plate glass window...

I joined the Military and had a blast... I loved the consistenty... for me it was peaceful... A natural order of things... No chaos...

I've been through two wars... those were chaotic times... I was a good soldier... and it broke my heart... there is no joy in watching people die... it boils my blood to see people cheer when other people suffer and die...

I digress... I guess my biggest issue with trump... and I will always give him a lower case t for his name...

trump has a LOT of characteristics of my father.... I SEE IT....

He's ROTTEN to the CORE!!!...

My Sister, whom I'm very close with... She sees the same shit... The pure EVILNESS...

I've been through two wars and an abusive upbringing... I felt FEAR the day trump was elected... I wasn't a big fan of Hillary... but out of the two she would have been the better choice of the two...

trump suffers from Narcissitic Personality Disorder... REALLY read about that and you'll understand... there is no hope for him... he's a mean vicious individual and he will not change...

I am so glad you found the military and that it was good for you. I'm very, very sorry it has taken you so long to vote (do you care to share why it took so long?) but it is truly wonderful you are finally voting.

That recruiter was a jerk of the highest order, but perhaps in fairness to him, he simply didn't understand why you didn't want them contacted and thought (hopefully because he was himself proud to be in the military and his parents were proud of him for that and he couldn't possibly understand parents who would not respond well to their kid enlisting) he was doing the right thing.

Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for posting that. As an old military brat I applaud you for serving. I know how many people that have literally been saved and found a path in life by joining. And thanks for being a Democrat and deciding your vote is important. It truly is.

And as a retired psychotherapist I couldn’t agree with you more. You hit it on all fronts.

Whether it counts or not in the election results - it may or may not make a big difference. But COLLECTIVELY the votes tell the politicians what the people want.

If you live in a red area, your vote may not change results. But there may be a Democrat in your area who might run for election, if they see enough Democratic votes come in.

IF YOU DON'T VOTE, YOU DON'T MATTER! You get a say in what you want, and who you want. If you don't bother to tell them, then it doesn't matter.

Welcome! So glad you're voting. It's FUN to vote! It's fun to take part in the political process. It also gives homage to those in the past who sacrificed a lot to get the right to vote. It's important.

Your insights into Trump proved right, too. I didn't pinpoint exactly what was wrong with him, but during the campaign I spotted that something was very wrong with him. Something not normal & not right, but I wasn't sure what. Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Yes...now I know that is one of the things that is wrong with him. You're right...he won't and can't change.

The psychiatrist he who wrote and signed Duty To Warn said he has severe personality disorders that can't be treated with meds and can be improved through heavy duty therapy with a great therapist, continual work and a real desire to change. He loves who he is so this is what we are stuck with.

He has three dangerous disorders...malignant narcissism, sadism and he is a sociopath. This is not a good combination for anyone, but a US President with this make-up is truly a serious danger for the country.

You're in a safe space here at DU.

I'm glad that your service time was an experience you enjoyed. I will always believe that joining the NAVY was the best thing I ever did. Like you, I was looking to escape a difficult family life. I found a "family" that accepted me, mentored me, encouraged me, taught me (I trained and worked in a field I loved - I had a wonderful career as an air traffic controller.) and gave me the best experiences ever. Many people think that military life is stifling. I found it liberating. I never had to worry about what to wear, what I should be doing and when I should be doing it. It was a growth experience for me that I will always be grateful that I had the opportunity to embrace. I would do it all over again. Serving my nation was my proudest moment.

Congratulations on your voting, even if it's the first time. Doesn't participating in the experience feel empowering ?

Now that you've found us, stick around. We're a funny bunch.

my idealistic kids. that is, a candidate may never meet all of your ideals 100% - that's an unrealistic expectation. You gotta vote for the one that best lines up with your ideals. If none of the candidates meet your requirements, vote for the one that will do the least harm. But in every case vote.

He can be extremely charming to the people whom he feels he can gain something from... and vicious to the people that oppose him...

I liked McCain... though I disagreed with him on many stances... I agreed with him also on many stances too... and trump showed him severe disrespect on the half staff issue...

When trump said he prefers vets that weren't captured... I almost lost it... Commander bone spurs... trump used daddy and his paid off doctors to wimp out of doing service when his number was called... not out of some peaceful protest....because in his heart trump is a coward...

trump even made a statement one time... that vets suffering PTSD are mentaly weak...In effect that's what he feels...

Just because you have felt that your vote was but a very small speck doesn't make it so. Every vote counts. Every vote is important. Trump is Prez because about of 60,000 people in 3 rust belt states in 2016.

We are not powerless. We are powerful, when we organize for change.

People who've experienced abuse or con men know all too well this guy is sick, and you nailed the disorder he has. Thank You for your service, and your vote. Lost a close friend about a year ago who was like you and joined the military to escape violence and abuse living at home too , and he did so good after leaving his situation. trump is evil, and we haven't seen the worst of him yet I afraid. Promoting violence and hate , and lying like he does.
