He's a vet and has a nice southern accent. he's on Morning Joe
Hmm he voted for Trump....oh oh

(1,737 posts)That disqualifies him for me. I don't trust his judgment.

(102,200 posts)is the "greatest" only because they can beat militarily most of the world. Pointing out the problems that that attitude hides and fails to address is really good--coming from a 10 year military vet.
He came off pretty good, which somewhat surprised me, given a lot of what I've read about him. I'll enjoy him taking on Trump, at least, even if I have qualms about him becoming the nominee.
And yes, foremost among those concerns is the fact he admits voting for Trump in 2016... Heavens

(871 posts)he can't really believe he has a chance at securing the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. No way in the world would I vote for him.

(94,489 posts)The General Election Voter Philosophy: Someone who voted for Trump and recognizes their mistake can be won back as a Democratic voter.
Which approach helps win elections?

(44,973 posts)He is planning to run for president.
Are you really going to argue this guy is presidential material?
But yet so many on DU say Kamala Harris is tainted somehow. wtaf

(94,489 posts)...but that "voting for Trump two years ago" doesn't automatically disqualify him.

(5,376 posts)It sounds like he voted for Bush, McCain and Romney as well. Is that enough to disqualify him?

(11,627 posts)If you looked at 2016 and decided Trump was the best choice then you are either a racist or an idiot... especially if you claim to be a democrat. If people that made that terrible decision have thought better of it or awoken to reality then we welcome them back with open arms to the party, but not as candidates for president.

(102,200 posts)But, it is the hard core Dems that vote in primaries.

A real southern war hero vs a nothing.
They shit all over Max and the same party loves Trump.
Is this guy trying to attract dems?

I saw this a couple days ago, he breaks it down quite nicely...

(2,872 posts)That is not the impression I've gotten from what I've seen.. now, I am not in his state or district, but it seemed to me he would have been a lot better choice then the Republican..

(1,897 posts)So bad, in fact, IMO he disqualifies himself. There are so many potential good candidates
that I have to strongly suspect the motives of posters soft peddling this guy.
If that gets me banned so be it.

(7,396 posts)hidden issues. He may be able to pull things off in WV, but no way should even be able to sniff a Democratic presidential nomination.

(10,173 posts)To be charitable, he could have lost by a lot more.
Now Michael Moore wants to tell me that this guy is the voice of the progressive working class when he wishes to limit abortion to rape and incest only, and is pro-gun-rights
This bothers me because it reveals the dishonesty behind a lot of the hype - no moderate dem would get away with those positions but because Ojeda is a vet, has some tattoos, is "anti-establishment", it's all good. It's obviously bullshit because I guess 3rd way, compromise politics is fine for some people, so much so they get called a voice of the progressive working class, but not for others who get dragged.
Still, I don't have a problem with him throwing his hat in, but uhm,.. he's gonna have a tough time.

(3,148 posts)Now I didn't see the interview. Only read a profile and a quick blurb about his run.
Most Trump voter are cultist and would see him as a traitor. The people that may vote for him as a remorseful trump supporter are maybe 5-10% Max.
His anti-choice and pro-gun stance will alienate him with at least 50% of the most loyal Democratic voters.

(11,627 posts)We all already knew exactly who Trump was in 2016 and if anyone could overlook that then they can fuck right off.
