A New Jersey couple and a homeless man embroiled in a GoFundMe scandal will reportedly face criminal charges after authorities say they conspired with each other to make up a false story.
Mark D'Amico, Kate McClure and Johnny Bobbitt, all linked to the $400,000 fundraising page that was shut down, are accused of conspiracy and theft by deception, a source told NBC 10 in Philadelphia.
D'Amico and McClure turned themselves into Burlington County prosecutors in New Jersey on Wednesday, according to the station. It is not known whether Bobbitt, the homeless man, has turned himself in.
The couple had launched the GoFundMe page for Bobbitt on Nov. 10, 2017 after he allegedly used his last $20 to help McClure when she was stranded on a Philadelphia highway. The page, which is "no longer accepting donations," has raised $401,921.
