It is not ageist. It is not sexist. My goodness, I am sure we ALL respect the service and experience of Pelosi and Hoyer and admire them as people.
I personally like both of them and think they have generally done a good job in leadership.
It is just that they have been in leadership for a llllllllllllllllllllong time, and as we move into the future I think we need to consider some change. New ideas. New leadership. Just as we have had to do at the DNC, and at state parties, etc.
*** Remember, polling shows more registered Dems in America want a change in party leadership than not.***
All organizations get stagnant after a while, and there needs to be some change.
I am fine with current leadership given their experience to continue for another year or two during this transition, but can it hurt to discuss and consider the future and coach up some other people to pick up the mantle of leadership in a few years?
At some point not too far down the road people like Fudge, Lieu, Swalwell, Bustos, and Schiff could be great in leadership. There are others too. So we have to look to the future.

(3,344 posts)Most of the people you mentioned are not running now for the position. And Fudge's non-participation in the important LGBT legislation is disqualifying, IMHO.
Hoyer should be replaced because he doesn't represent the majority of the Democratic caucus.

As to Hoyer, GOOD that we have him because we are a DIVERSE party and PURITY is DEATH!
He is a VERY good man, and one hell of a lot more PROGRESSIVE than ANY RePUKE.

(444 posts)and it is time to move on. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to take over the suburbs. Pelosi though effective is to tied to the past. People want a "new direction" and we can reinvent ourselves and look to the future. We have to make the republican party old and in the way.

(988 posts)Its ok to have younger folks on some committees, leadership roles, etc but its ok to have experience as well.
In fact I would prefer Nancy's experience but with more of the well spoken younger leaders speak out more like Swalwell, Jim Himes, etc
If a young leader gets out there and says things even slightly off, the right will pounce on that and scape goat another boogey monster. This is what the elders know.
