With problems like global warming, rising oceans and more plaguing our planet, it baffles my mind that people are wasting their time and energy worrying about the beliefs and values of a fast food restaurant owner. How is that relevant to our immediate or long-term existence? From what I can see its not. Whats more is the whole thing has done more harm than good to the earth as a whole. Read on to learn just some of the ways this whole situation has negatively impacted our environment.
Distracting from Bigger Problems
My biggest issue with this whole thing has been the fact that so much media coverage has centered around it. You couldnt turn on a radio, watch the news or visit a webpage without learning a new development in this chicken sandwich saga. Never mind that there were other news stories breaking, or advancements being made in other realms, no our nation wanted to hear about its precious chicken.
Think of how different our world might be if people invested that same fervor and outrage into controversies surrounding deforestation or oil frackingyou know, issues that have a direct impact on EVERYBODYS collective future. Now, Im not saying the issues of equality arent important, and I definitely dont share the views of Chick-fil-As leaders. What Im attacking is the media frenzy that swept the nation. Does it really take a tray of fried foods to get us going?

(47,675 posts)The run-off from the farms is loaded with poisons and antibiotics. The waste feeds the nitrogen-breeding organism that clog up waterways. I'm not even GOING to get into the methane emissions. The feed for them is almost exclusively Monsanto-based bio-crap that's cross-pollinating with organic crops and ruining them. Yeah, I'm vegetarian, but even if I DID eat meat, I'd still be pissed about this shit.
Have you ever seen a factory chicken facility (can't use the word "farm" - not applicable). They're all over the east shore of Maryland. They stink. East of Lancaster, PA stinks too, but that's mushrooms. There's no humanity, no concern for health and disease issues. It's all about profit. Tyson rules the "torture the chickens for a profit" arena. Chick-A-Fil (as I've always called it) is just a pawn. It's way worse than you can imagine.
It isn't about the food. Seriously. It's about the mind-set. There was a moron in line for the "counter-protest" who quoted Leviticus ("man to lie with a man"
and attributed it to Jesus. I'm a fucking agnostic leaning atheist and even I know that way pre-dates Jesus. Oh, and how about that "to eat shellfish would be an abomination EVEN unto God" line about two pages later? Huh? Ever eat a shrimp, idiot?
It isn't a distraction. It's a very real issue. If rMoney and rLyan can steal the election, they will. Obama is the best president perhaps in history and mostly because he cares about the country before himself. I can say the same of Lincoln, Eisenhower, FDR, and even Grant. The rMoney campaign is all about power, nothing less.
Yes, it is a distraction. It's fracked up. We've got our own fracking issue here in PA and it's in the PASC right now. Voter ID will knock out 10% of our voters, mostly Democratic (NOT "DEMOCRAT"
voters. Corbett is evil. The House and Senate are all GOP so he gets what he wants. If I see him on the streets of Harrisburg (unlikely since he never leaves the mansion) I'll give him a full truck-nutz moon and be proud to be arrested for it.

(10,618 posts)there is no "liberal movement", only a loose collection of separate narrow interest groups all of which believe that their particular special interest is "the most important".
"Global warming will wipe out all life on earth!"
"Oh, that doesn't matter because animals are being mistreated."
"That's not even worth thinking about. Marriage rights for gays is the only thing that really matters."
"How can you worry about things like that when peak oil is about to bring about the collapse of industrial civilization?"
"It doesn't matter that all of western civilization is about to collapse. Forget that. What we really need is that we have a majority in the House and Senate."
"Forget that! Did you hear what Rush Limbaugh said this morning?"
"Maybe you missed the part about 'The end of all life on earth.'"
"Don't be ridiculous. It will never happen. And besides, they're being mean to chickies."
And around and around it goes. "I don't belong to any organized political party. I'm a Democrat."

(10,745 posts)He does make a few good points every once in a while, but he's not a voice of reason or reality, and quite frankly, I've been (rightly) disturbed by some of the things he's said in the past, like his claims that humanity will go extinct within perhaps a generation, or that World War III is bound to come.......
I'm sorry, but is it any wonder the rightists have had success in mislabeling & lying about the motivations of climate scientists?
