Carl Bernstein: Trump desire to prosecute Clinton defining moment and demonstration of his unfitnessBY JOHN BOWDEN - 11/21/18 09:56 AM EST
Washington Post veteran journalist Carl Bernstein took aim at President Trump on Wednesday over reports that Trump had approached the White House counsel about prosecuting Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey through the Justice Department.
In an interview on CNN, Bernstein slammed the incident as an example of Trump's "unfitness" to be president.
"This is a defining moment in the Trump presidency," Bernstein says. "This is a demonstration of his unfitness to be president of the United States, of his abuse of presidential power, of his embrace of authoritarian power."
"We are now watching a president of the United States undermine the very principles of our democracy," Bernstein continues. "The president takes an oath to defend the constitution of the United States, to uphold it and to protect it. This president daily abuses it, but never have we seen such flouting, such willingness to abuse the constitution."
Bernstein's remarks follow a report from The New York Times claiming that the president talked to his White House counsel Don McGahn about using the Justice Department to prosecute Comey and Clinton, two of his top critics. McGahn reportedly rebuffed the president, telling him such a decision would lead to accusations of abuse of power.

Most Deplorable of All: that self-identified 'christian" republicans have submissively elevated him as their spiritual "leader" and as the republican family-values role model for their children and grandchildren. Sad.

(12,165 posts)And it's probably not so much that McGahn sees what's wrong, but that his own self-preservation instinct has told him that following Trump to the bitter end is not going to pay off.

This cannot continue.

(16,937 posts)And when Mueller releases whatever he has - McTurtle will claim there isn't enough to do anything about it, Flake will say that "it looks pretty bad" and do nothing, and Faux News will cover the governmental problems in Great Britain and Germany because everything is fine here. And a week later things will continue on as-is until we hopefully kick ass in 2020.
It's our last chance..........................

HES. NOT. GOING. TO. BE. IMPEACHED.
He acts, we react, we run around pulling our hair out, he struts around like the cock of the walk, the media rends their garments, and 40% of the population says suck it libtards we drink your tears.

(7,434 posts)For how many months have journalists and political science experts been screaming that Trumpy is "unfit" for the job? NO. How many years? Bernstein is declaring that Trumpy's desire to prosecute HRC is a "defining moment"? Every day is a defining moment. Every day Trumpy damages the US. The defining moment came when Trumpy and the late (not great) Roger Ailes collaborated on boosting and installing Trumpy into the news cycle back in 2015. There are countless "defining moments." Of course Trumpy tried to order the DOJ to prosecute HRC and Comey. He wouldn't be the evil bastard he is if he didn't.

(1,822 posts)Unfortunately we know they will talk their way out of this enough to satisfy the base and keep anything from happening. I assume theyll say something like he only discussed it, he didnt pursue it and there are a lot of Americans that think those people should be investigated .
