The cabinet has no legal definition. It is only mentioned briefly in the Constitution, in Article 2, Section 2 with the words "he [The President] may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices," and in the 25th Amendment Section 4.
... 3: The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

(56 posts)We know Donald Trump is crazy and breaks norms without a second thought. Over the Recess of the Senate for the holidays, Trump fires the Secretary of Defense (as he has the power to do at his pleasure.) He then appoints himself acting Secretary of Defense and AG (or keeps a compliant Matthew Whitaker). A false flag terrorist incident takes place and he declares a national emergency. He tells his supporters to take into custody all government officials who have committed treason by resisting him. Then as Commander-in-Chief and head of the DOJ, he orders the military and law enforcement to stand down and not interfere with his patriotic supporters. It is done.

(6,280 posts)He is only as good as his ability to get out the word. I would think he could be isolated very quickly if mainstream media refused to air him. A good hacker or hackers could take down Facebook and Twitter. Things could get chaotic but I really think this scenario is manageable.
