Warning signs mount for Trump reelection bid

From Politico:

... Unlike most of his predecessors, he’s been persistently unpopular, with approval ratings mired in the 40-percent range — so far, he’s the only president in the modern era whose job approval ratings have never been over 50 percent, according to Gallup.

Some of Democrats’ biggest gains came in the states that powered Trump’s Electoral College victory in 2016: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. And while a president’s base has stayed home in previous midterm elections, leading to losses, the record turnout in this year’s races suggests 2018 was more like a 2016 re-run than Trump voters standing on the sidelines.

Thus far, even Trump loyalists in the party haven’t seen the president expand his electoral base beyond core Republicans.

“This is now the party of Donald Trump. I read articles saying the Republican Party has merged with the Trump coalition — they have no choice. Trump voters own the Republican Party. That’s consolidated,” said John McLaughlin, who was part of the team of pollsters working on Trump’s 2016 campaign. “The bad part is they haven’t broadened [his coalition]. They haven’t gotten his job approval over 50 percent, like Reagan. We haven’t done that.”

The GOP can’t be that dumb to think they’ll ever get their approval above 50% nationwide again, can they?

Before Trump, Republicans chased racist votes with dogwhistles while appealing to centrists who didn’t understand the meaning of the dogwhistles.

Trump solidified the GOP base by speaking the white identity politics out loud. Yeah, he locked in the base, but he made it impossible for the GOP to court centrists.

So the GOP now has a minority group of voters, and this will last for years. Their only route to success is voter suppression and ideologue judges, to lock in minority rule. McConnell and the billionaires that run the GOP know this— that’s why they’ve been ramming through unqualified judges and ramping up voter suppression in ND, GA, FL, while using gerrymandered “wins” to take away majority Dem power in NC and WI.

No Republican can be dumb enough to think they will ever have approval above 50% (barring another Pearl Harbor or simila, god forbid) — can they?

Cotton's name has been mentioned as well as Kasich, Romney, Cruz..

Just trying to thnk of a competitive Repub to compete with the Dem Candidate.

I think the repubs need to find a figure that moves away from trump fascism.

No one close to Trump will win in a fair election.

If they beat him in the primary and then had to campaign with him in office. What a mess that would be.

I have not met nor heard of the maggot gaining any new supporters just shredding them. At the rate he’s going when the mueller investigation winds down he could lose 10% of his base easily. My cousins husbands parents voted for maggot in 16. Yesterday he told me they are finally getting wobbly in their support of him. His sister is a diehard maga though. I gave my cousins husband a splatt ball of the maggots head to show his parents at Xmas. Told him it was a great stress reliever. He put it away so his kids wouldn’t get to it.

But won't and this is for legal fee's and for himself to keep from going bankrupt again. He knows he won't be running. The only thing he's running is from the law, and more scams on the supporters.

Campaign funds have already gone toward Donald Jr.'s legal fees. tRump loves the exposure, being on TV, having every word he utters repeated on TV over and over. The free golfing trips, the free travel, the profits pouring in from his hotels (against the law, but so what?) If he only knew how many of us DESPISE him, hate seeing his repulsive face and puffy body daily. He is no Barak Obama. He has no class, intelligence, polish or BRAINS. Low life John Gotti wannabe, without the looks, fashion sense or intelligence. If he is as smart as he thinks he is, what happened to his kids since they are all "slow" you might say. Bloody big farce brought on to this country by Putin and the gop traitors.
