Scott Stedman @ScottMStedman 31m31 minutes agoBREAKING from me/@NatashaBertrand: An explosive letter has been sent to Schiff's office claiming that Papadopoulos coordinated with Russians with Trump's knowledge in the weeks following the election. Authorities are taking the letter "very seriously" https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/11/papasopouloss-russia-ties-still-interest-fbi-schiff/576895/
from the Atlantic:
____The letter, obtained last week by The Atlantic, was sent to Democratic Representative Adam Schiffs office on November 19 by an individual who claims to have been close to Papadopoulos in late 2016 and early 2017. The letter was brought to the attention of Schiff and House Intelligence Committee staff, according to an aide who requested anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. The letter was also obtained by federal authorities, who are taking its claims very seriously, said two U.S. officials who also requested anonymity due to the sensitivities of the probe.
The statement makes a series of explosive but uncorroborated claims about Papadopouloss alleged coordination with Russians in the weeks following Trumps election in November 2016, including that Papadopoulos said he was doing a business deal with Russians which would result in large financial gains for himself and Mr. Trump. The confidant said they were willing to take a polygraph test to prove that I am being truthful and had come forward now after seeing Papadopoulos become increasingly hostile towards those who are investigating him and his associates. A lawyer for Papadopoulos declined to comment.
If corroborated, the claims in the letter would add to an emerging portrait of Trump and his associates eagerness to strike backdoor deals with Russia even after the intelligence community concluded that Moscow had interfered in the 2016 election. (Trumps son-in-law, Jared Kushner, tried to set up a backchannel to Russia in the weeks after the election and met with the CEO of a sanctioned Russian bank during the transition period. Trumps former national security adviser Michael Flynn, meanwhile, negotiated with the Russian ambassador about U.S. sanctions before Trump was inaugurated.)

Here it is, folks. We had to redact portions of the letter as to not give away any details about the Papadopoulos confidant. It's real, and federal authorities are investigating thoroughly.

(1,089 posts)the shit is really starting to hit the fan now, and the leakers want to do whatever they can to insulate themselves from winding up in their own legal poopstorm. Some of these folks may just know some inner-circle dump-humpers and they're getting really scared about all of this.
New Sheriff in the town - real subpoenas are coming.

(94,265 posts)...I'm guessing the Atlantic took this long for due diligence on sourcing and whatever corroboration they could manage (not much, it appears from their report).
The sources of leaks may all be unrelated. There's a 'shit hitting the fan' wind in the air.

(22,915 posts)long, if at all.
No one person can move an election, unless it's an inept candidate.
There are lots of people who know what happened and as this drags on, and the tide has turned to the democrats, they'll come out of the woodwork.
They're pissed off totally, and want this crap to stop.
Hopefully this is like me too: It's an opening salvo, followed by an avelanche of new evidence.

(7,632 posts)To be fooled by a phony letter would be a crushing blow. The media should be smarter and professional enough to prevent being too eager, and thus vulnerable to attacks of this nature.

because we ignore their biggest advantage, talk radio, they can take a fake story and create a house of bullshit to discredit the truth tellers.

(391 posts).... when the noose finally began to tighten around Tricky Dick's neck
and he was running out of wiggle-room. He was making several public appearances
and Dan Rather was there at the front of the press and dogging
Nixon's every step.
At one of the appearances Nixon asked Rather, "What are you running for
Mr. Rather?
Rather shot back, "Why are you running, Mr. President? Nixon was not amused.
The sense that the end is near for the current prisondent is similarly palpable.
I can only hope that Mueller has enough to get Manafort's boy Pence too.

(94,265 posts)...and these are credible journalists who didn't just dish this out the day they got the story.
"The statement makes a series of explosive but uncorroborated claims..."
Besides, there should be some concern about dismissing everything just because some stories didn't pan out.
