General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHas anyone seen the ads for a new political film on Obama called "2016"?
I've seen the trailer run on MSNBC "Morning Joe" commercials and it looks like a hit piece.
The narrator is D'nesh D'Souza, who, apparently, has gone "around the world" interviewing
people who know, and or are related to, President Obama.
Why I feel it's a hit piece, is that D'Souza is a known conservative and
it ends up with a large picture of Obama with a voice over saying:
"Obama: You may love him or hate him, but you don't KNOW him"!
Same old "Who's the Kenyan"?, birther type bullshit we've come to know and hate.
It's scary and creepy, though, so close to the election and it's reminiscent of another
conservative hit piece about Hillary (I forget the title) which threatened to open
just before the LAST presidential election, but was ruled against by a judge who objected to
it on the grounds of it being too close to the election.

(51,431 posts)and yes, it definitely looks like a hit piece. I checked it out at IMDB, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2247692/ and the comments and reviews were interesting. Looks like a bunch of bogus comments.
One comment subject line: "A movie for Independent Thinking American (Open-Minded)" - yeah right.
"This is a documentary of Obama's vision for America. It talks about the people that influence his thinking. Excerpts from his memoir " Dreams from my father " were used to follow his journey from childhood to manhood. The setting goes from Hawaii; Indonesia; Kenya; United Kingdom; New York. It explains what his father's dream is all about and how it shaped his character. It shows the people that were his mentors; friends that he associates with.
It also concisely explain in detail the action that he takes which confuses a lot of pundits especially the people who truly love this country (USA) whether they're liberals or conservatives.
This is a riveting and thought-provoking movie. It shows where our country is headed. We can always agree and disagree with issues; we can even replace political majority from one party over another... but as an American; we only have one COUNTRY and it is IRREPLACEABLE.
This is a MUST-SEE movie for open-minded individual. " Love him, Hate him but Do You Really Know HIM?"
Sounds more like a promo than a user's review!

(30,303 posts)The Right Wing will flock to it, and Dems won't believe it, even if they do see it,
but I hope it doesn't affect the Independents.
P.S. Judging by your description, it does sound particularly bogus,
because Obama Sr. had MINIMAL influence on the Prez as they only had
one meeting when Barack Jr. was a child...I just hope most people
seeing the movie understand that....As for that "not knowing him" shit,
I'd say we ALL know him a hell of a lot better than anyone knows Romney!
PatSeg
(51,431 posts)"Not knowing him", as if he is some mysterious stranger that just suddenly appeared. There are people out there who buy into all the conspiracy crap, though I believe most of them want to have a reason to not trust him.
I share your concern about Independents. Between this movie and the OPSEC Team ads, it is starting to get ugly. I guess we knew it was coming - been there before, but it still unnerves me.
Oh, I checked out this Special Ops OPSEC Education Fund and what a surprise to find out they are a brand new organization, a "social welfare organization" even. Of course, their donors are a secret.

"What do you MEAN you "don't know anything about him", I asked, and then I went on about
his books, all that's been written about him, etc...It's ridiculous, and what makes it even more so, is his
demonstrated warmth with people..He's witty, good-natured and seems very approachable to me
When you see him with crowds, he's always smiling, reaching out, shaking hands,
and such, not exactly the "mysterious" type.
P.S. What is Special Ops OPSEC Education Fund?..I haven't heard of it.
PatSeg
(51,431 posts)that is financing the new swift-boating ads about Obama killing Bin Laden. They are so offensive. At their web site they almost make Obama sound like Bush when he kept using fear and terror as a reason to keep supporting him.

(128,148 posts)I wouldn't expect anything less from that tool D'Souza. He's the guy who wrote a book about Obama's "rage," which was the source of Gingrich's crap about Obama being a Kenyan anti-colonialist. D'Souza also blamed the American left for 9/11. He's a total douche, and I expect the movie to be a hit job every bit as mendacious as the swiftboaters' garbage about Kerry. I think Obama's campaign is much more likely to hit back this time, though.

(14,887 posts)the Rev yesterday - "...from the producer of 'Schnidler's List'..."
Spielberg had 2 other producers. Gerald R Molen and Branko Lustig. I'm going with Molen - who is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
"...In 2012 Molen was prohibited from speaking to high school students in Montana by the principal who described him as a "right wing conservative." The cancellation of his presentation resulted in widespread criticism of the principal. The school district superintendent regretted the principal's decision saying, "...thats not how we treat people.""...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_R._Molen
Lustig - During World War II, as a child he was imprisoned for two years in Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. Most members of his family perished in the death camps throughout Europe, including his grandmother who was killed in the gas chamber, while his father was killed in Čakovec by Hungarians on March 15, 1945. Lustig mother survived the Holocaust and was reunited with him after the war.

(27,461 posts)it doesn't make sense to go back to these theories, now that Obama has been president for almost 4 years.
I actually called up and pointed this out to him when he was a guest on a radio show. I said, you have been discussing your theories about Obama for 45 minutes and you haven't said one word about anything "anticolonial" he has done as president.
He answered, ok, here's something, the START treaty. Which is obviously nonsense, and even more nonsense later when I looked up that treaty and saw that it was ratified by 72 senators. Are they all anticolonialists?
whathehell
(30,303 posts)the "birther" crap, the Repukes are still hawking it...I'd have to know what
the particular theories are in order to get your point.
Enrique
(27,461 posts)he bases it on Obama's upbringing, especially his father, and also on his professors at Harvard. The theory had problems before Obama became president, but now that Obama has almost finished a term as president it is just downright silly.
If I could ask him a question today I would ask him about Ecuador and Assange. An anticolonial president would certainly stand with Ecuador against the UK, right?
BumRushDaShow
(162,906 posts)which was why they advocated freedom from England and created this great nation of ours. Which means those who are anti-anti-colonial are "loyalist traitors". So Mittwitt, LyinRyan, and their surrogates and supporters, are all anti-American.
See? This is what happens when you take their nonsense all the way out to the real rather than fictional conclusion.

So you have to ask yourself, how much money will Joe-six-pack pay to watch a political movie, no action, no shoot-em-ups, no half clad young ladies showing skin, not fire, no bullets flying around? Answer, not much and not many of them will do it. So I agree with you, 'no one will see it'.
