(15,805 posts)Maybe his geniusness really is slipping away right before our eyes, or maybe he's preoccupied with his mounting political scandals and has finally realized he is in grave legal peril. His vacant expression is a classic in geriatric wards everywhere.

(16,423 posts)Every time we visited him, we told what's going in the family, what's new, and we could see that he has trouble focusing on new information.
He kept refering to how a certain family-member finally has a good job now... He got that job 5 years prior.

(8,380 posts)An elderly couple asked if we'd like to share a table, and we agreed. We struck up conversation, and my husband asked where they each were born. The husband answered, "I don't know." We continued to converse and he made small talk. I wondered if he needed a hearing aid, but he was congenial. Then, toward the end of our meal, he picked up the ketchup bottle, put some on his grits, and then put some on his toast.
It's slow, it's insidious, and I see it with Trump in these moments. Things look normal until they're not.
