BY BRETT SAMUELS - 12/03/18 08:00 AM EST
Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) slammed former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Sunday over his criticism of her election and policies.
The incoming lawmaker responded to Huckabee, who had shared a Daily Mail article noting that she appeared to liken her primary victory over heavily favored Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) to the moon landing or the expansion of voting rights.
"A Green New Deal will take a level of ambition + innovation on the scale of the moon landing. Weve been done it before, and can do it again," she wrote.
"Leave the false statements to Sarah Huckabee. Shes much better at it," she added, referencing the former governor's daughter, who currently serves as White House press secretary.

(58,785 posts)the great Democratic alliance. I'm cautiously hopeful we're seeing Alexandra grow as she gains knowledge and experience and that it'll last beyond the committee assignment stage.
If so, she should eventually part ways with her newly named chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti. He's cleaned up his tweets a whole bunch over the past several days, filling the void with calls for climate action and planetary wellbeing, but he's a hostile radical and will be swinging back like a compass needle to his main target. He a much smarter Sarandon type for whom the Democrats may actually be more of a problem than the Republicans given our gross hypocrisy combined with corruption. No chance he's interested in supporting the work of our 116th Democratic house caucus for the next two years.

(56,828 posts)"cleaned up his tweets"?
Has he tweeted some controversial stuff in the past?
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)any of the worst. He was tweeting his usual hostility to Democrats even after she was elected as a Democrat to congress, which at first was harsher but didn't actually conflict with her public statements. But after she arrived, met some colleagues, discussed what they wanted to accomplish, and changed her tone, Chakrabarti did not change his, and on skimming I saw a couple of statements that actually directly contradicted hers.
The real eyebrow-raiser for me, though, referred to the controversy some of the statements she made after being elected had stirred up among Democrats. He approved, of course, and suggested that Ocasio's new position in congress (which he and his buddies helped her win) could be a chip Justice Democrats might need to sacrifice to the cause. This from a man who'd accompanied her to DC to be her new chief of staff!
It was right after that one that his tweets went relatively benign. I'm hoping, and pretty much expecting, that it made her realize she had to get control. He's now her employee, after all, and she is a member of congress.

(58,785 posts)Justice Dems a great deal, after all she brought one to DC with her, and we may have been seeing their ambitions for themselves, not just hers, in her campaign behaviors.
But her life was already very busy after winning the primary and others must have been scheduling travel, speaking engagements, meetings, doing office support and, I'm guessing, handling social media and drafting messages for approval, though whose?
Now in DC all these newcomers have to set up offices and hire permanent staff. The question is, of course, how much influence does he still have over her policy thoughts.
Cautiously hopeful. Once she's busy on committees with her colleagues that will hopefully be part of yet another weakening of his influence. But his focus on IT is on using it to influence voter behavior on large scales, not send out constituent mailers. Her little district is far too small for him.

(13,907 posts)We will see once she gets in the trenches and try's to get things done for her constituents..
I've seen it with new doctors and to some extent new lawyers.. Just out of school with high aspirations of making a change and a difference. Problem is dealing with the "old guard" and their bullshit/rat fucking ways.. The old "you do for me, I'll do for you" trap.. Quid pro quo...
And then there is the money.. People in congress are always complaining about having to work the phones half the time to get money to get re elected...Can't get anything done.
With all the noise about repukes taking money from the Russians that would take a huge weight off their shoulders. No phone calls!! Thank you товарищ. I vil do anting you vant..

(7,142 posts)This is why Republicans are afraid of her, and from what I've seen, even a few Democrats are afraid of her.
I have no problem with her enthusiasm to save our planet.

(6,927 posts)that my husband and I disagree on this. I think only a few titles are for life. President, General and Reverend come to mind. I think there should be limits on some. He does not mind them carrying the title forward. I can handle it a little better if "Former" precedes the title. I actually prefer "Failed Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee" for him.
