I haven't turned on the television since the death was announced.

Well that's not really true. I watched some English cooking shows on Netflix. Check out "A Cook Abroad"!

Not the worst, certainly not the best. He was just sort a placeholder, I always thought. Not someone I would think eligible for any kind of canonization.

they gave a truly honest assessment of HW. It was so refreshing. To say the least there were no tears in that studio.

If it's available in your area. It is here in the Twin Cities of MN. I recommend that if you get bored with the GHWB stories.

9. My friend's daughter told her Mom that while on her way to work ...

Dec 2018

This morning, she was listening to NPR, and some Bush lover/clown on there was saying that Bill Clinton owed the great economic success that he had for his 2 terms TO Bush Sr. Didn't he have trouble understand how a supermarket food scanner worked? My friend's kid told her Mom that she's swearing off of NPR for a good long time if not forever with what she heard about Saint G.H.W. Bush. He, along with Ray Gun's tax cuts for the rich and gutting of Unions and working folks left the economy in shambles, yet Bush is responsible for the 2 terms of Clinton's robust economy

Yes OP, the canonization of Papa Bush continues.

Like I said in a post this morning around here, I'm VERY sure that Bill Clinton nor Jimmy Carter will receive as much POSITIVE re-writing of history that Bush Sr.'s getting, nor nearly in the HEAVY doses he's getting it. The mostly corporate media will be interviewing Monica Lewinsky and talking about how flawed Clinton was. Pres. Carter may get some Camp David Accord love and Habitat for Humanity love, and he may be talked about as being a 'real' Christian, but little more. He'll be bashed for losing as badly as he did to Reagan (Even though we know what Reagan DID to win the election), and for being ineffective as a president Yet, we've heard little about Iran Contra. The Drug Wars, about him voting against the Civil Rights Bill or about the other extremely less flattering things about Bush as POTUS, unless it's being told by the more liberal and fair-minded folks on alternative networks/stations.

Mehdi Hasan on George H.W. Bush’s Ignored Legacy: War Crimes, Racism and Obstruction of Justice

the headlines have largely glossed over and ignored other parts of Bush’s legacy. We look at the 1991 Gulf War, Bush’s pardoning of six Reagan officials involved in the Iran-Contra scandal and how a racist election ad helped him become president.

This is what happens when an ex-president dies. You must know that.

Turn the channel, go outside, read a book.

to sell as a Bush remainder at Winco.

The sole item I find displeasing about Michelle Obama is her supposed friendship with GWB.

What's with some folks at DU to be positive towards GHWB?

Better to be silent and grit one's teeth as another corrupt and evil asshat leaves the Earth's domain.

Republicans undermining democracy in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Cohen and Putin, Trump Tower and Mueller.

The climate assessment and the Green New Deal.

Lots of emerging stories worth a look.

Whitewashing can't last forever. The truth will out, even if you have to read about it in a Howard Zinn book.

18. Rubin and Pierce went at it on Hardball last night
Tue Dec 4, 2018, 06:00 AM
Dec 2018

Charlie Pierce wasn't having any of Jennifer Rubin lionizing Bush. He was really pushing back on Bush's Iran-Contra pardons and what he knew about the whole affair. Rubin had said that Bush's foreign policy expertise and knowledge were unparalleled, then Pierce threw that back asking that if he knew so much, why didn't Bush have any idea about Iran-Contra?

But then everyone's a saint after they're gone.
