over Bush senior dying. The examples of his public persona they keep citing, couldn't possibly be in bigger contrast to Trump. The media have to be enjoying rubbing that in.

(4,858 posts)...the negatives are obvious. The possible skullduggery in the 1980 election. The Iran-Contra business, especially the pardons. His 1988 campaign. His bowing to the far right of the GOP, and his refusal to really fight against it. Especially, his nomination of Thomas to the Court; Bush also gave us Souter, to his eternal credit. On the plus side, his service in the War; his competent performance at a wide variety of jobs--and for me, "competent" is very much a compliment. And his role in the winding down of the Cold War, his role in raising taxes, which probably doomed his re-election; and his putting together the coalition in the Gulf War. And his work with Clinton since. Add his obvious personal decency, and it's hard not to feel a little positive towards him--especially given what we have now...
