Hear me out, and let's be practical. Any dreams of him in an orange jumpsuit are just fantasy. Even though he is a complete idiot and has no intention of learning anything, he is a huge security asset. No gen-pop, not even Club Fed. The only thing I can think of that might come closest to a presidents fate <former> would be the nicely furnished aquarium that held Noriega .
And even then, it would have to be guarded and policed by Secret Service because of classification issues. So he will end up a pariah sulking in his tower with no real consequences that you or I might have to deal with.
At the least, if found guilty his spawn will get VIP club fed treatment.
Im not trying to be Debbie downer, but because of his office, what he might have sponged up, and his 30% die hard rabid supporters, he will never face real justice.

(10,122 posts)She can also get him on many of the charges Manafort got nailed with at the state level
And they can hammer him financially so hard his business founded on a leveraged house of cards will probably come tumbling down.
He's pissed off the FBI. He's pissed off the CIA and intelligence community
He's got a whole bunch of people caught trying to lie about it.
This isn't a little burglary before a landslide victory.
This is consorting with the enemy to steal an election.
There is little redeeming here for him - it was all about self gain.

but I want the wife and spawn to be isolated and reviled with him in his gold plated world...no safe havens for the Trumps...I want them punchlines in every dirty joke ...I want them jeered at and spit on every time they dare to show their faces...I want Ivanka and Jared to be uninvited and non invited and abandoned...I want every piece of property with trump's name on it seized and bulldozed...and yes fighting lawsuits and subpoenas every day of their lives...and then I want them forgotten...just a terrible footnote in some out of date history book...

(9,696 posts)is taken down, all crimes are exposed, and he'll be left standing alone. Oh, and all money (what little he has) goes to restitution. Then it's fine with me if he spends the rest of his life in his golden cage/trumpft tower.
Probably not a popular opinion, but I don't feel we should be putting presidents in jail. The people who voted for the president will never believe it is legitimate anyhow.

Nixon, Reagan, both Bushes have gotten away with their crimes because prosecuting them would be too upsetting and not in be in the nation's best interests. All B.S. of course, just protecting the status quo and the powers that be. And that's how we ended up with Trump.
An other reason why trump will walk.
Prescott and his family should have been salted and politely told to go away. but, money.
dflprincess
(28,072 posts)is he doesn't come from "old money". He's an upstart who was never part of the club and may have actually endangered the old, rich, white guys hold on things -- all the while thinking he was one of them.
We can hope.

I'll be find with him leaving in disgrace, having fines levied by states for tax evasion or whatever, never being able to get a loan again, civil suits, etc.

(28,072 posts)but what would really humiliate him all the details of his finances come out. Having it come out that he's been (probably) living on credit and is in deep to the Russians & Saudis is all he would care about & having what few assets he may have seized.

(6,384 posts)The Government of the United States will never imprison a former President. The optics on a global stage would be a cost too high....and this guy has already cost us plenty.
He'll get pardoned on Federal Crimes and get slapped with fines by the State investigations. Some of his family will no doubt get slapped with federal fines, but those who spend prison time...they will be the Scooter Libby's and after a bit of time, get commuted.

(32,653 posts)But I think everyone knows by now that trump is a traitorous clown and we're already the laughingstock of the world. If we don't make an example of him, it could happen again!

(4,388 posts)Part of the reason we got Trump is because Nixon skated.
I would use the security risk as a reason to push for no contact solitary confinement, not to let him off. How long is he going to live in prison anyway?

I am sure the Republican party is happy about the Supreme court having mostly Conservatives on it...sheesh.
