So sad that our dinner to say good bye to Senators that are leaving is not bipartisan. If we can’t be together to even recognize those who are leaving, what hope is there for this place? Why didn’t it happen? 2 words. Mitch McConnell

14. McConnell has taken a page from Newt Gingrich's playbook.

When Newt became SOTH, he told all republicans members NOT to move their families to the area (MD,VA,DE). Up to this time, there had always been parties, softball games, picnics, holiday celebrations with both parties and their families. Everyone knew everyone else, knew their families, their children and because they all had so much in common, there were strong bonds between members. There was a genuine camaraderie. Gingrich put an immediate halt to all of the cross party socialization when he became speaker. Things have gone down hill ever since.
