It's the only way to redeem ourselves to the world and uphold the rule of law. Clinton forever has a black mark for being impeached. So should Trump.

(25,895 posts)They can convict with a 2/3 majority vote. Notice that the current Senate is a bit more than 50% Republican.
You can do the math, I'm sure.

(7,277 posts)Impeachment (now) is a quick dirty substitute for the lengthy, extensive House investigations necessary to fully expose the rotten core of this Administration.

Question is, would the McTurtle controlled Senate give a damn if the House brought charges against him

(11,885 posts)But the Senators refusals to impeach will do nothing but get themselves removed from office, and insure even more the Senate will be Democrat controlled next election for sure. Enough public pressure will ruin some of them for future higher office runs also , so there will be some having to support it , or face enormous backlash from doing nothing to a felon in the oval office being allowed to remain. Mitch can refuse to do anything, but some gop senators can pressure Mitch by telling him they'll switch to give the Democrats the power and control, and lose his job if he refuses to go along with them. Enough members will be doing just this if Mitch refuses , and he'll be forced to, or lose his position eventually. They also know the longer it goes on the more likely some of them could be exposed too.

(58,785 posts)Democrats don't want to hear it at this point and wish it'd go away? What does it mean that most Democrats have turned off and haven't turned on yet, that they agree with many on the right in wanting a return to decency and cooperation in government?
To me it means that impeachment as an ineffectual moral statement, not backed by a majority of the people, would not be seen by far too many as a moral statement. It'd be seen as Democrats being just as bad as Republicans and a pox on all of us.
We can and do make moral statements without the use of impeachment, and I believe a growing number of voters made moral statements in the midterm elections as well.

(4,533 posts)We should avoid acts which will motivate trump supporters to vote. We need trump supporters to go to sleep. And stay asleep in 2020 elections. We need to just vote trump out of office. Thats the best approach. Forget impeachment. Forget prosecution. Until hes out of office we should not poke a stick into the trump supporter hornets nest.
