Police announced early Saturday that they have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape and murder of a North Carolina teenage girl.

The Lumberton Police and FBI charged Michael McLellan, 34, with 10 felonies including first-degree murder and first-degree forcible rape in connection to the death of 13-year-old Hania Aguilar, multiple media outlets reported Saturday

The case garnered headlines after an online petition gathered 50,000 signatures in November requesting officials allow Aguilar's father be allowed to come to America from Guatemala to attend the funeral.

However, an attorney representing her father told local media that his request for a temporary visa was denied because

"he doesn't have enough ties to the country"

rather than he wants to go to his daughter's funeral? He does not have enough ties to his own country, so he would stay here and become an illegal is his plan - going to his daughter's funeral is just the excuse. That's how we are supposed to think his reasoning is going at this point in his life?

He left US in 2005 voluntarily. His visa still got denied to attend his daughter's funeral.

"Deported" in the cruelest sense of the word - makes the denial of a funeral visa - extensively heinous & egregious
