Former CIA Director John Brennan on Monday fired back at President Donald Trump over his latest tweet attacking the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
After Trump claimed that there is no smocking gun proving his campaign conspired with Russian officials, Brennan responded by gloating that the president must know hes in deep legal jeopardy to post such frantic and misspelled messages on social media.
Whenever you send out such inane tweets, I take great solace in knowing that you realize how much trouble you are in and how impossible it will be for you to escape American justice, Brennan wrote. Mostly, I am relieved that you will never have the opportunity to run for public office again.

(42,770 posts)Isnt an impeachment - even if high crimes are found by Mueller. What would stop him from running? If they somehow manage to produce indictments that arent stricken - that wouldnt necessarily preclude him from running either. Or is Brennan just assuming GOP wont give him the nom?

(4,512 posts)Sounds he's talking about more than impeachment or not getting the nomination.

(58,785 posts)The Republicans are supporting their president now out of partisanship, and because they haven't yet been forced to face up to the results of the Trump-Russia investigation, but they won't reelect him. He's already proven weak, cowardly and profoundly incompetent, and that's not what even his most ardent followers thought they were getting or will choose for again.
Amendment: LiberalFighter just pointed out that congress could disqualify Trump from running for office again as part of the removal process. Guessing they undoubtedly would.
But fwiw, if not barred, Trump could run for president as a convicted felon and even from prison, although he couldn't fulfill his duties as president from prison.

(42,770 posts)are slim to none.. You made me think....if I was a gop senator I would think long and hard about sticking with him when something worse comes out of Mueller. When it does, they will already have to explain why they supported him for so long. Even if IQ45 doesnt run again, they will still need to explain. Bottom line they are screwed in 2020.
May all be moot - havent heard IQ45 mention running again or being prez for life lately. Also rumblings he hates his job and hates DC.

(58,785 posts)Btw though, two from Trump's WH staff just left for new jobs with the Trump 2020 campaign. Trump is posturing to his base, and no doubt deluding himself, about a second term. I'm with you in believing he'd love to be out of this. The trap he created for himself is closing in fast, but I'm guessing in his happier moments he still thinks there's an ego-fulfilling way out.
