GOP senator: I dont care if Trump broke the law
By Kaili Joy Gray -
December 10, 2018
To Orrin Hatch, it's OK to commit felonies if you're a Republican.
Sen. Orrin Hatch, the retiring Republican from Utah who will be replaced by failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, really doesnt have a problem with fellow Republicans who commit crimes.
Asked to respond to recent court filings that directly implicate Trump in a felony, Hatch first tried to deflect by suggesting Democrats had somehow made the whole thing up.
The Democrats will do anything to hurt this president, Hatch said.
But this very serious and very credible allegation against Trump comes from federal prosecutors, not Democrats. Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York laid out the case in a sentencing memo for Michael Cohen, Trumps former lawyer.
After this was pointed out to Hatch, however, he kept shrugging it off.
OK, but I dont care, was Hatchs answer. All I can say is hes doing a good job as president.
This is not the first time Hatch has made clear he doesnt care about the law so long as its a Republican whos breaking it.
During the disgraceful confirmation hearing of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Hatch said he didnt care if Kavanaugh had in fact attempted to rape a girl, as he was credibly accused of doing.
Hatch, like the rest of his fellow Republicans in the Senate, went on to vote for Kavanaugh to receive a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land.

COMPLICIT! Don't do the crime if you can do the time. That's the way it works for the rest of us civilians. That's the way it should work for civilians running for higher office, as Individual-1 did.

(2,593 posts)I never saw him as one of the strident, hateful Republicans. I thought he and Lindsey Graham were more in the mold of John McCain.
Trump has brought out some despicable traits in this one. And Graham.

(11,212 posts)Hatch, said in 1999 that Clinton's crimes "go to the heart of qualification for public office."
"This great nation can tolerate a President who makes mistakes. But it cannot tolerate one who makes a mistake and then breaks the law to cover it up," Hatch, who was then a Utah senator, said at the time.

Cause it would be fun as hell to get them on record as supporting the Rule of Law, and then doing exactly the opposite.
