No one wants it because of their treatment of Colin Kaepernick.
Bravo singers!

(36,631 posts)It's a national disgrace that we don't have a president who would speak up in defense of a citizen exercising the right of free speech in protest against the government. The NFL added to that disgrace in the way they treated Colin Kaepernick and their attempts to chill support for him.
The only reason the NFL plays the national anthem is for the show. Colin Kaepernick's action had a higher purpose than that.
Kaepernick is still right -- the problem he protested has not gone away.
I've been a football fan for more than half a century and I'm disgusted with the NFL's action. I applaud the artists who are refusing to perform the halftime show.

(7,632 posts)They tried to book this act but they refused because Trump stiffed them in 2016.

(280 posts)Now if they can just find red, white and blue outfits that will fit Kanye and Gary Bussey and surround them all with the 4 tractor inaugural parade extravaganza you'll have the best halftime show the world has ever seen.

(96,943 posts)And ain't nothing about that good.
Emotional abuse is child abuse and making your child happily sing about Trump is emotional abuse. Putting it out in the public is also abuse.
Everything about Trump is abusive. Why subject your child to it?
ETA: I'm not blaming the kids but I do blame their parents.

(14,367 posts)Two of the groups #1 songs are duets with female singers so the band will need to rely on their other hits or play new material. Regardless, the halftime entertainment was signed weeks ago so there is no danger of there not being a show.

(36,631 posts)Superbowl halftime is not 1 artist or group and nobody, so far, is willing to perform along with Maroon 5. That's what makes it news and significant. It's very unusual for anyone to turn down the opportunity to perform in front of that gigantic audience, even if they're not paid.

(36,631 posts)There are more single-artist performances than I remembered. (I have not watched all of them. Superbowl halftime adds too much time to the game).

(17,506 posts)Kapernick doesn't have a job because he's not a very good qb. He had one great year in his NFL career in 2013 and that's it. If you can play, NFL GMs and coaches will overlook a lot. Kapernick simply can't play any longer.

(15,424 posts)I like Kaep, but he is not a guy you can have a winning team with him as a starter.
SO, his spot in the NFL would be as a backup, and he IS good enough to be a backup/spot starter if the starter gets hurt.
HOWEVER, one of the primary prerequisites for NFL backup QB is that they bring no drama to the team.
This is what Tebow ran into. He had the talent to be decent backup QB, but teams didn't want to deal with the controversy with him. Same with Kaep.
There are a LOT of guys like them who would not cut it as starters, but would be decent backups. Teams will take a similar guy who will show u every day ready to start, but draw absolutely no attention to himself over Kaep or Tebow 100 out of 100 times, unless you are a dumb ass like Ryan ...

(659 posts)But question...why do republican backing people lack humor and typically make subpar music or movies?
Especially the humor part- they only mutter their cold dead lips about racist and sexist stuff. No creativity.

(17,428 posts)racist right-wing crap 24/7???
Folks, this is what it is going to take. It's going to take hurting these fucking radio stations and broadcast companies in the God Damned wallet.
Why the fuck should The Ohio State University broadcast their sports on radio stations that give us nothing but Rush, Hannity, Weiner and whatever other fucking cookie-cutter hate monger they can find during the other 165 hours of the broadcast week?
The Retrumplicans have so fucking gerrymandered this country, that they don't give a fuck that they got blown out by over 10M votes in the last midterm.
BUT THEY WILL FUCKING CARE IF THE CORPORATIONS AND BILLIONAIRES THAT FUND THEIR FUCKING RACIST ASS SHIT START LOSING MONEY
We are getting to a point where VOTING DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER (take WI, MI, NC, OH and VA for example). If you can only get 48% of the vote, but end up with 70% of the legislature WHY WOULD A FUCKING VOTER SCARE YOU?

(2,067 posts)Or have a history of past violent crimes, often against women and children.
What artist would associate themselves with that?
It's fascinating how many people want Kaepernick to be associated with what is essentially a criminal enterprise at this point. He's wise to stay far far away.

(7,880 posts)former National Football League (NFL) players had evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), or permanent brain damage as a result of repeated blunt force injuries to the head. Such injuries can result in behavioral changes or cognitive decline, like memory loss or dementia.
