Hank Jr. just couldn't contain the worst of his racist, bigoted, xenophobic self anymore

Hank WIlliams Jr: 'We've got a Muslim president who ... hates the U.S.'

Hank Williams Jr. played to a crowd of nearly 8,500 night at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand Friday night. Following the song “We Don’t Apologize For America” a chant of “USA, USA” broke out amongst the crowd. Williams smiled, telling the crowd that he was their mouth piece, adding:

“We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him!”

The cheers that followed were loud and enthusiastic.

When reached for comment Saturday, Brad Anderson with the Obama campaign in Iowa said in an email, "That type of absurd nonsense doesn't really deserve a response."

Hank Jr. Is a talent-free, racist, brain-dead piece of filth---and he's going to have plenty of money and supporters for the rest of his miserable life. The Dixie Chicks had their careers destroyed for speaking the truth a single time. They're the ones who deserve our support and patronage. Don't try to turn Hank Jr.'s life into some sort of Greek tragedy, because he is completely unworthy of it.

but you don't get to be where he is without being pretty damn good. He's probably forgotten more about music than most of us will ever know. Deriding his skill is just sour grapes. If you want to claim he's a poor musician you'll have to produce more than undergraduate coffee house declarations of personal preference. Everybody's a critic, but while you're complaining about how much he sucks, he's playing to gigantic crowds of people. You can't do that without being good. Is he Beethoven? No. But neither is Jimmy Hendricks. And both will be forgotten long before we stop listening to Moonlight Sonata.

I haven't, nor do I have any desire to. He was one of the worst presidents in history. We all, myself included, denounced him as an idiot. We will continue to suffer from his tomfoolery for a long time to come. He was a fountian of poor judgment and bad public policy. But he put on a helluva show. And he accomplished exactly what the 1% wanted. A bad president? Without a doubt. A bad politician? Hardly. Even with "gentleman's C's" a Harvard MBA is nothing to sneeze at. That whole Texas act was just that - an act. And it worked. And Hank is just as big a jerk. And he puts on just ad good a show.

Never underestimate them.

so I could be full if shit. It wouldn't be the first time that happened. But I have heard he is a good blues guitarist. Maybe not.

I think its unwise to conflate his skill as a musician with his politics or his personality. Picasso was a mysogynistic jerk and one of the greatest artists that ever lived. And we remember him today not because he was a great artist so much as he was a great careerist.

The fact that Hank Williams Jr. is a dick doesn't keep him from being a good musician. If he were a bad musician and a dick he'd be a dick doing something else for a living. As it stands he's got a bunch of awards for doing music, which puts him ahead of about 99% of the rest of the country musicians in the world.

But I can't indulge in music criticism because I don't know enough about it.

Robert Redford, Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck, Clint Eastwood and all the rest do the work they do. They're artists and they do what appeals to them. And they sell that work to people that like it. Compound this with the treatment of the Dixie Chicks for a similar act, it is telling as to what type of people make the country music genre.

"Country Music Awards crowd gives Hank Williams Jr. a standing ovation"
http://www.nj.com/entertainment/celebrities/index.ssf/2011/11/hank_williams_country_music_aw.html
Take it, Brad and Carrie: "People want to know, Hank, why do you drink (before an interview!)/Why do you smoke (before an interview!)/Football ain't the same/Without that song that you wrote/Stop and think it over/Let me help you get the picture/You can drunk and start carrying on/But you can't compare the president to Hitler."

As the crowd cheered, Williams walked out on stage behind the hosts, leading to a standing ovation. They asked him if he wanted to say anything -- he refrained -- and they launched in to a Country Music Awards show-appropriate version of "Are You Ready?"

Compare that to the treatment the Chicks got - banned by country radio and ganged up on by pricks like Toby Keith

and at the CMAs in 2003?:
At the Academy of Country Music awards on Tuesday night, the host, Reba McEntire, made an unfunny joke. "If the Dixie Chicks can sing with their foot in their mouths, surely I can host this sucker," she said. The setup was pretty awkward. And when you stopped to think about it, the punch line really wasn't one. But none of that mattered. The line earned one of the night's most enthusiastic ovations.

If you like souther rock you still can't beat those Georgia Satellite cd's. The first two are amazingly good. That big hit "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" isn't even among their best songs as far as I'm concerned. They do a version of "Whole Lotta Shakin'" that just burns!

just say the hated Keep Your Hands To Yourself and never heard anything else from them. I have to admit I sometimes skip that when I put in that CD.

Why is Clear Channel so quiet about this?

Nothing remotely comparable to the garbage that came out of Junior last night.
And I suppose that 'on foreign soil' outrage no longer matters with the wingnuts, either.
FOX has said zilch on the lunacy of Dave Mustaine, either, and gave the jerk a pass.

57. The Dixie Chicks received death threats...

... and were dropped from playlists in 2003, after lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience, "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas." Nearly every yahoo in the country went apeshit, screaming that the DC were unpatriotic, and that they disrespected the president " on foreign soil." What rubbish.

And now, knuckle-dragging, redneck doucherockets like Hank Williams, Jr. and Ted Nugent just spew their insane, illiterate, fictitious garbage with impunity. What happened to their deep concern about respecting the office of the presidency?

It's enough to send one's blood pressure into the danger zone.

Remember the entire country music establishment turned their backs on the Dixie Chicks. This has much to do with why I do NOT listen to country "music". I was raised in a small conservative community and dealt with similar problems. I have no desire to go back.

On the other side of town in a little publicized event....7000 (sober) people gathered to welcome home Iowa Olympians Lisa Uhl, Lolo Jones, Jake Varner and adopted Iowa Olympian Gabby Douglas....just saying; we're not all retards...but we certainly had a critical mass gathered on the east side of DM on Friday night.

Require candidates for president to prove that they are “natural born citizens,” beginning with the 2012 election. After all, non-citizens serving as president have been a longstanding problem in American politics.

Reject the “claims” of global warming, which are “based on fraudulent, inaccurate information” and pushed by people using “extremist scare tactics.” The Iowa GOP “recognizes” that policies and laws designed to combat global warming are really “a plan to take our freedoms and liberties away.”

Oppose “the diabolical collusion of the United Nations” in promoting its Agenda 21, a non-binding global sustainability plan signed by President George H.W. Bush and the leaders of 177 other nations in 1992. Like the Republican National Committee, the Iowa GOP apparently believes Agenda 21 is part of an effort to impose global political control on the U.S.

• Allow Iowa to “nullify” any federal laws it doesn’t like. Nullification was a failed legal argument made by opponents of the civil rights movement.

• Eliminate the Federal Reserve Act and implement a “sound commodity-backed currency” with a gold or silver standard.

Fight the North American Union, “which would do away with our borders and sovereignty, and … the Amero, which would do away with our currency.” Although there actually are no secret plans to merge Mexico, the United States and Canada into a single entity — and replace our dollars with “Ameros” — that hasn’t stopped the conspiracy theorists.

• In the same vein, “oppose so-called ‘One-World Government.’

• Entirely eliminate the departments of Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Energy, Interior, Labor and Commerce, along with the Transportation Safety Administration, the Food and Drug Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

• Likewise, abolish the Internal Revenue Service and repeal the 16th Amendment, which legalized the federal income tax.

Probably nothing but mouth-breathing, drunk rightwingers.

Hardly a cross-section of Iowa, which tends to be a Democratic-leaning state.

His, Kid Rock and Nugent's RWCrazies should demand the GOP use their crappy music and mindless lyrics? as backup music for the appropriate political events rather than "pandering" to the Left Wing musicians...and getting publicly rebuked.
