Unless a judge orders otherwise, Leon County Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley will begin to register formerly convicted non-violent felons on Jan. 8, the day the Voting Restoration Amendment goes into effect.
"It's clear" that the amendment automatically goes into effect on that day, Earley told the Tallahassee Democrat, even though that view stands in opposition to what Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis has said about waiting for the Legislature to approve enacting legislation for the amendment.

(4,429 posts)1. He was trained by Ion Sancho
who was GREAT. Tally always ran their elections fairly and without issue. Good for Earley he's following in Ion's footsteps. I know there are tons of problems statewide (this is Fl, after all)
but Leon county (thanks to Ion) does a wonderful job.

The Amendment was clear and unambiguous.
Proud of this decision by my fellow Floridians. Other decisions, not so much.
