When I was in college, the ACLU came to my university, so of course I went... During the Q&A session, a gentleman asked the host about the lack of conservatism. She replied back with "The ACLU is the oldest conservative institution", end of discussion. I found it interesting, but I'm wondering if she was referring to upper-case or lower-case. I wouldn't want a post of mine taken down because of a lack of consensus or definition on sources. I think defending the 1st amendment shouldn't be a partisan issue. Just like the environment and infrastructure shouldn't be either; a bad bridge doesn't collapse when there's only drivers of one political bent, just like bad air and water (Flint and thousands of other cities you haven't heard about)

Their mission is to protect Americans' civil rights and liberties in accordance with that document. These days that means they are very definitely NOT "conservative" in the Republican sense. The ACLU is a great organization that has done an enormous amount of good over the years. Republicans mostly hate it. Do your research.
