The President of the United States is using a Christmas visit to the troops in Iraq to disseminate campaign paraphernalia?
Walter Schaub deleted the above tweet because he doesn't want the soldiers getting blamed.

I took down a tweet about what Trump did on his trip to Iraq because Im worried about the chance that someone might blame the soldiers. Its not their fault. Trumps engaging in campaign activity during this trip is on Trump and Trump alone. Disgusting. Truly disgusting. Shame!

(8,592 posts)I disagree with Shaub though, he should have left it up. No one would blame the troops just for being there.
That said, If they took the campaign stuff or wire or used it, than they violated UCMJ regulations and should be held accountable, just like trump.

I don't know what is actually true - but I can't find anything that says he handed out hats, since Shaub delted his tweet and we don't know exactly what it was he was reporting.

Ms. Toad
(33,915 posts)in the only report I can find. I've been looking for more detail & can't find any.
And it fits wtih Schaub deleting his tweet for fear the soldiers would be blamed (with violating the Hatch act).

Ms. Toad
(33,915 posts)almost immediately after his election. (That's why he's been holding campaign rallys almost since day 1).
All I can do is go by what i can find - and I can't find anyone suggesting he gave them out, rather than signing ones the troops brought.

(14,971 posts)theyre violating the USMJC code against politicking. Trump just got them in a hell of a lot of trouble.
Ms. Toad
(33,915 posts)he didn't want the soldiers to get into trouble. (That's the gist of the follow-up tweet explaining why he deleted the first one.)
And it's consistent with this article:
