A surprise court order triggered a last-minute move Friday by Gov. Roy Cooper to continue the state election boards probe of fraud allegations in the 9th District congressional race, even as Charlotte Republican Mark Harris demanded to be named its winner.
With legal issues far from resolved, the skirmish could delay by weeks the final outcome of Harris race with Democrat Dan McCready, who on election night appeared to have lost by 905 votes. Also Friday, the incoming House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, said the House wont seat Harris on Jan. 3 because of the allegations.
In this instance, the integrity of our democratic process outweighs concerns about the seat being vacant at the start of the new Congress, Hoyer said in a statement to the Observer.
Both sides, Democrats and Republicans, accused the other of trying to corrupt the process. Between them is the state elections staff, which is deep into an investigation of whether Harris benefited from an alleged illegal get-out-the-vote campaign but found its board abruptly dissolved.
A three-judge panel in October ruled the boards makeup unconstitutional, but had delayed disbanding it while the election and fraud investigations were underway. On Thursday, the panel accused the board of ignoring the courts directions and dissolved it effective at noon Friday.

(70,442 posts)Funny, I thought the problem was Harris (R Baptist Pastor) paid some
low life to hire poor people and have them illegally go out and pick up
legal absentee ballots and either fill them out for Harris or if they were
already voted on then just throw them away.

It's really nice and good that the we took back the house this year to get this voting rights law looked at and get some legislation to fix this stuff and get it corrected, and then tell the Roberts right wing court to stuff it, where it don't shine.................because there will be a Voting Rights Act................ from another post

In 2004 in OH I saw a republican operative sit down with the presiding judge @
polling place that covered 2 precincts and compare voter rolls with the list of the
people who voted. They did this when I stepped out of the building for a few
minutes.
Hell, we have no bigger example of republican cheating in that Donald Trump is in the
White House. Every newspaper in America was against him, all the former Presidents
and their families voted for Hillary, the wife of the head of the GOP in OH said after one
of the trump v HRC debate said, "Trump makes my dog vomit.", and on and on and on
a yet Trump won?
No doubt good ol' Pastor Harris paying somebody to steal the people's right to vote
and have that vote counted was not a one time and one place action.
sorry to rant
