No exit: America's not only trapped in Trump's legal reality show, we're paying for it

https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2018/12/30/america-trapped-trump-legal-reality-tv-show-paying-too-column/2444986002/

We should have known what we were getting into the minute the unthinkable happened on election night 2016. As a business mogul, Trump had tax lawyers and bankruptcy lawyers. He had lawyers defending him against contractors claiming they hadn’t been paid, Trump University students claiming they hadn’t been educated, and women claiming all manner of sexual misconduct.

Trump investigations, litigation gather steam
Turns out that was all just a warmup for the main event. As a result of his former lawyer's plea deal with federal prosecutors, Trump is now implicated in at least one crime, felony violation of campaign finance laws in paying off porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal to keep quiet about sexual affairs with him.

And we're now at the point where, as many have noted, pretty much everything Trump is under investigation by one or more legal authorities — his business, his foundation, his campaign, his inauguration, his presidency, his family and Trump himself. As of Saturday, we can add Trump’s golf club in New Jersey — now being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller, the FBI and the state on federal immigration crimes, according to the New York Daily News.

He learned fraud and dishonesty from his father and went on to create his own crime family with his children. We have allowed far too much white collar crime to go unpunished in this country. My hope for 2019 is to see this crime family indicted, convicted, and marched off to jail.

it being given a “pass” in this society. Think about it in regard to Papadopulus who got 1 week for lying to the FBI. If i as a “blue collar” person lied to the police during an investigation in my working class community, i would go to prison for a lot longer than a week.

White collar crime gets a light hand slapping while blue collar crimes gets a big smack down. No parity.

"We" didn't put that thing in our White House. We share the shame and consequences, but not the blame. Those of us who voted for Hillary did not succumb to the lies and tried to save those who fell for Russian social engineering, Republican election tampering, and Trump's opportunistic scam.

disappeared when tRump got the nomination. They knew he is a flim-flam man and simply thought he had the best chance at gaining power - which is all they care about. Just like in W's time, others (Heritage, ALEC, Cato, etc.) dictate their policy so it usually doesn't matter who they elect because whomever they elect is just a populist robot. However, in this case, it's backfired because of tRump's self-interest and lack of self-control.

Many people knew DJT was a crook well before his announcement that he was running, but Repugs didn't want to know the truth. I follow the Guardian (UK) news site, and they ran a weekly summary of his lies throughout the campaign. The contrast with our mainstream media was shameful, as non were holding him accountable.

Sad period for America......
