I wish responding to a divisive post didn't kick it to the top of the GD page.

You know the AOC posts, the Bernie posts, and others, that bait us to answer. We all know it happens with certain posters frequently. If there was a do not kick button on these divisive posts they may not get all the attention they don't deserve. All they do is play into Putins play book To divide us any way they can.

There's a simple fix: Don't reply to the OP.

It often lowers my blood pressure!

A do not kick option may be good. But then no one would see this post. j

Don't respond and they will sink. Ask your friends to ignore them. Then, post something informative and positive. Ask your friends to K&R. If it is a very good post, you will not have to ask.

Happy New Year!

it is the small cadre of divisive posters who spam the threads ad nauseam.

I have the worst offenders on ignore.

When a thread becomes too contentious, someone should call, "Cornfield!" and all posters of goodwill should walk away and leave the fighters alone in the cornfield.

When I trash a thread, it keeps it from being displayed on the forum listings of posts that I see and some other places (yes, I know that affects only my view of them, not others', and that's fine).

But unfortunately, these threads still show up on my view of the home page in the Greatest Threads and Trending Now boxes. I wish I didn't have to watch these awful threads crawl up these boxes gathering more and more Recs.. Argghhhhh.

To clarify, on "awful threads", I don't mean most Bernie and AOC threads, I could care less. But there are some on other topics, or spinning other topics, that I wish I didn't have to see every time I visited the home page.

I wish me trashing a thread would mean me not having to see that thread anywhere I go on DU (and again, not affecting what others see).
