(905 posts)Where do they think the bullets go?
In the Detroit area they have a saying, "Ring in the New Year". You are supposed to ring bells. I like it.

(2,149 posts)I think they figured there's a ballistic trajectory where muzzle velocity is lethal, but firing straight up was more like dropping bullets from a hovering helicopter after they stopped going up. They hit terminal velocity and might sting, but not lethal by themselves
I wouldn't want to be hit by one either. Just my luck I'd put my eye out by looking up at the wrong time. And "neighborhood rains spent bullets occasionally" might not be the best selling point to most prospective home buyers
Wish Texans could just ring bells too!

(66,316 posts)A couple of years. Every New Year's Eve and every Fourth of July, they'd build a bonfire in their backyard, and then shoot off their guns in what to them, I suppose, was an appropriate form of celebration. Eveyrone else in the neighborhood called the cops instead.
They moved away finally; back to East Cornpone, Arkassippi, or wherever the hell they came from ...
East Cornpone, Arkassippi!
