(8,200 posts)The Republicans welcomed the hatred spewed by the disseminators of hatred and division that has led them down a dark dead end with no escape. It is either capitulation as expressed by Romney and severance with the hate brigade and the death of the party. But. regardless of the choice the present Republican Party days are numbered. If Trump survives and runs in 2020 their party will be split, crash and burn. The writing is on the wall. There is no escape for their embrace of evil. Good riddance to an evil, corrupt, unlawful enterprise that is a cancer eating at the very foundations upon with this nation was built. Let them eat each other alive in fevered madness like the ghouls they have become. The end of the tragedy they have visited on our nation can not be soon enough for real patriotic Americans who stand for Life, Liberty and Happiness and most importantly justice for all mankind regardless of birth, color, ethnicity, religion and sex.

Kidding aside, the snowball of resistance is rolling along.

Think about how insightful that segment was. Opinion was at the end of a newscast and was labeled as much. The Fairness Doctrine was still in effect. The right opened up - after Nixon - with personal attacks which Danny portrayed perfectly. Curtain was seen by the cast, as I have read, as the stodgy conservative and that was pretty much pointed right at her. She's had it. The tide has turned.

(13,291 posts)Those who have followed as Weekend Update anchors have been creative and entertaining, and their satire is often spot on, but no one since Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtin played off one other has there been such a strong acrimony between anchors.
In real life the only equivalent was when ABC teamed Barbara Walters with Harry Reasoner (which I thought was a great name for a journalist). He detested her, both as a journalist and as someone who was making a lot more than he was. He slammed her at least once every show.

They should call themselves The Kleptocrats. No, I guess the 'crat' part is too like their political adversaries. Maybe Kleptocons?

(37,648 posts)It's not the Party that is the problem. It's the way they view things. For us on the left, too. These things don't change, except gradually over time. Over generations. But we can hopefully keep them out of office.

(31,261 posts)The rock solid base of the modern Republican Party are the old dixiecrats, the people that still worship the confederacy and treason. Until their children and grandchildren totally reject that worship and treat each non White person as a unique individual, change will not happen.

(31,261 posts)The country has a big problem with the modern Republican Party being in the picture. We are better off as a country when that party no longer exists.
