Please tell me the best way to trash Trump to a MAGA in 30 seconds

I often meet Trump supporters. I married into a Republican family. Not that they are all Trumpers, but those who are, including friends of the family, think he is the best thing since sliced bread and all other views are fake news.

Conversations about Trump seem to be short, or short-tempered, because they have no facts, other than claiming he is making America great, Obama was terrible, and he is probably going to go down in history as the best president ever. I have learnt that they will not engage in a fact-based discussion, but I do sometimes get a chance to say what I think is wrong with the Trump presidency before things break down into insults and shouting.

If you were in this situation and you have a thirty second window to make your point, what would you say? What is the most powerful argument you can make against Trump in thirty seconds? I am not asking if I should bother or not, but I am asking for your advice in giving the strongest critique of Trump in no more than thirty seconds.

Casinos, steaks, vodka, "university" - what kind of "successful businessman" bankrupts casinos in (at the time) the second largest gambling area in the country? If he is so great, why is it that no bank in the world that is not run by Russians will do business with him?

Banks wouldn't lend him money anymore to watch him live lavishly and let the business fail.

So he switched to a fee-based business model, just licensing his name to others.

Probably the most sensible business decision he's ever made, but one he was largely forced into because banks and investors recognized him as a horrible businessman.

First, ask to be heard out. It's a reasonable request and if someone won't listen to you, then they have just admitted they aren't interested in hearing facts that may shatter their little world of make believe. But if they agree to listen:
1. Every business person who ever had the misfortune to cross paths with the Trump Corp will tell you that Trump micromanaged every tiny detail of the business. Micromanaging is always a sign of poor business skills.

2. 3 of the 4 bankruptcies involved personal guarantees by Trump to the banks - no big corporation ever signs this kind of document precisely because it clearly links the individual to the business outcome. He was personally and inextricably linked to these business failures by his own declarations and to deny it now is ridiculous.

3. Both points 1 and 2 have been reported on numerous times over the years, well documented and his countersuits against these reports have failed 100% of the time. Anyone who doesn't that the time to read about or listen to these fact based accounts is wilfully ignoring mountains of evidence.

4. Finally, even if someone chooses to ignore all the evidence of Trump's failures as a businessman, think about this:
If you went into a bar and the guy on the stool next to you
- mocked a disabled person.
- next bragged, BRAGGED, about grabbing and assaulting women.
- and then continuously insulted and belittled the men and women serving in the armed forces..
YOU WOULD HATE THAT GUY.

Trump may be authentic, but he is an authentic prick. Why anyone want to support this jerk is beyond me.

Take the previous five Presidents: Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama. This covers the last 4 decades.
Now, name one that you would not choose over Trump to be Commander in Chief on 9-11.
They will think a bit but realize that they cannot make any plausible case for Trump instead of Clinton or Obama. If they try to reach back to Carter, remind them that he was an officer in the nuclear Navy and fully prepared to launch nuclear annihilation against our enemies if necessary.
Same exercise with JFK or Trump during the Cuban Missile Crisis will yield the same result.

That was his most obvious low point. It polled terribly.

Trump took Putin’s word over American intelligence agencies, who all said Russia interfered in our election. Putin even admitted he helped Trump get elected, while they were both standing there. Trump refused to press Putin not to attack us again. He displayed cowardice. Then the next day, when he saw that people were disgusted, he lied about his statement and pretended that he forgot to say “not!”

He always praises fascist dictators, calling them “strong.” He disses our allies, calling them weak. Donald Trump is an enemy of freedom.

If that doesn’t work, remind them that Trump passed code-level intelligence secrets to two Russian operatives in the Oval Office when he thought no one was looking, endangering embedded allies.

If none of that works, remind them he promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, now he wants you and me to pay for it.

Say -- 1. 17 criminal investigations now in process and 2. 5 of Trump's aides now admitted and convicted felons tell you everything you need to know about Trump's character.

Republicans put a $2 trillion tax cut for billionaires on a credit card. You and your kids are going to pay that back. Fox won’t tell you that. Don’t be a sucker. Dems are the party of working people.

57. Advice: Your real target is the bystanders, not the MAGArons, if there are any.
Wed Jan 2, 2019, 08:58 AM

If you're ever going to get through to a Trump fan, it won't happen in 30 seconds. They're having too much fun despising the things and people they like to despise, and love that he's such a public amplifier for them. They won't turn until something smacks them right in the face, and maybe not even then.

But you can pitch these "arguments" with the fan club to deliver the facts to bystanders who could be reachable. Don't bring them into it unless they volunteer, but just work at planting seeds where they can sprout. Which is usually not the brick walls.

58. Use numbers, solid numbers.

It will leave them slack-jawed and drooling.

When they come back with a Foxism, as they will, tell them you know where that idea came from, and that nearly everyone else in the world knows it's not true, because {survey numbers} and that's 6 billion vs. 40 million.

They'll reply that they don't care what anyone else in the world thinks, then remind them that half of the rest of the world is smarter than the average American.

That's about all of the doubt they can take in one sitting.

He repeatedly kowtows to Russian policy makers.
He freely shares US intelligence secrets with foreign agents.
He failed to respond to a Kremlin-approved attack by Russian mercenaries against American soldiers in Syria.
At times, he tells generals im Afghanistan not to pursue terrorists.

Sat Jan 5, 2019, 11:28 PM
Jan 2019

You can add the hard or soft intro:

Hard
As a fully grown adult, has it crossed your mind that you are being lied to?

Softer
You've been around, raised a family, worked hard, have you ever stopped to considered that someone may be lying to you?

This covers Trump AND their media.

Trump is a traitor, he sold out to Russia. He's a traitor to America, a traitor to the American people, a traitor to the military, a traitor to the flag and a traitor to the constitution. Do you know who supports traitors? Other traitors. From then on, anything they say you reply something like that's just what I would expect a traitor to say or spoken like a true traitor. Then you can look at them and silently mouth TRAITOR. Use this only if you really want to royally piss them off. It'll probably kill a relationship.

Sun Jan 6, 2019, 03:17 AM

then let them know who is really getting the tax break.

You should be able to arm yourself with plenty of proof between now and then. DU will have plenty of links to stories about what the 1% are raking in. Print some out where the headlines tell the stories because they probably won’t read the articles.

Any argument you use has to be one that affects them personally became they don’t care about anyone else.

the challenge you face in trying to trash trump to maga in 30 seconds is akin to trying to trash Jesus or any other religious figure to a confirmed believer in said religion. Consider how you would respond if someone was trying to trash your religious belief ( including atheist or agnostic ) Facts do not apply, logic does not apply, the scientific method does not apply; it's all worthless in an argument based on emotion and faith. Consider instead the message-MAGA Make America Great Again. Ask them to explain when and how America Stopped being great when 1. the declaration of independence has not been altered recently 2. The constitution has not been amended recently 3. The unalienable rights of Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness still apply 4. The Bill of Rights has not been amended, voided, or altered. 5. We still have the legal guarantees of ALL citizens receiving equal protection under the 14th amendment. If you get a glassy eyed blank stare score yourself 5 bonus point. If you get the usual rambling bullshit answer then interrupt, and ask how THEY define a country's greatness. When the bullshit continues, which it will, interrupt and ask where they learned this, and have they ever even heard of American Exceptionalism. When they reply no they they haven't- inform them when they understand more of this then and only then will you discuss American Greatness again.
