Former Democratic presidential contender Martin OMalley is sitting out the 2020 White House race.
OMalley, governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015, said Thursday he would not seek his party's nomination for the right to challenge President Trump. O'Malley sought the 2016 Democratic nomination, but dropped out of the race after his Iowa Caucuses support came in at less than 1 percent.
Instead for 2020, OMalley is backing outgoing Rep. Beto ORourke. The El Paso Democrat is considering a White House bid after waging a closer-than-expected, but still losing, 2018 race against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.
People are looking for a new leader who can bring us together. They are looking for a unifier and a healer. They are looking for a leader of principle, and they are now looking for a fearless vision, OMalley wrote in an op-ed published in the Des Moines Register.

(17,705 posts)I supported him at first in the last go round, very early. Read everything he wrote. Read everything I could from Baltimore.
Then I heard him speak.
Im sorry but voice matters. I really think if Hillary had vocal training she would have won.
I voted for her, volunteered for her for many days, phone banked for her from Hawaii (yo, AZ, that was us 🤙🏼
Yeah, other shitty things happened but first you need to be able to get people to listen to you and the sound of your speech matters. Its nonverbal communication and people judge you for it, usually unconsciously, usually unchangeably, and usually more than they judge your words.
Dont blame me, talk to the communication oriented social scientists.

(19,489 posts)Presumably, if O'Rourke does run, O'Malley will then endorse him.
