Guarantee Health Care for Every New Yorker

Bill de Blasio’s plan to guarantee health care for every New Yorker, explained

The New York City plan builds on a successful San Francisco program to achieve something like universal health care.

By Dylan Scott Jan 9, 2019

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has a plan to bring “universal health care” to America’s biggest city — and, though it’s not quite single payer, the initiative shows that Democratic politicians are getting more creative about what they can do to expand health care in the Trump era.

De Blasio rolled out a new plan this week that he says would guarantee that every New Yorker, regardless of their ability to pay, the ability to visit a doctor and get affordable medical treatment in the city’s historic public hospitals system.

“From this moment on in New York City everyone is guaranteed the right to health care,” the mayor said Tuesday. “We are saying the word guarantee because we can make it happen.”

The promise of “Medicare-for-all” is energizing Democratic voters, and health care was a top issue in the 2018 elections. Now de Blasio is one of several Democratic mayors, governors, and other politicians seeking to improve health care access even as Republicans in Washington control the White House and the Senate.

Let it be put in place, chug along quietly and successfully for a while so no one can badmouth it and sabotage it.

It's being proven below the fed level, but people are going to see the effects just as they have with ACA.

After they finally ditched LePage, 70,000 Mainers received care under Medicaid expansion.

Mills moves ahead with Medicaid expansion on first day

By MARINA VILLENEUVE January 03, 2019

Gov. Janet Mills' first executive order Thursday took steps toward expanding Medicaid, something she had promised to do her first day in office to fulfill Maine voters' demands.

The Democrat's order urges her administration to swiftly roll out Medicaid expansion to at least 70,000 low-income Mainers, a measure her Republican predecessor had long blocked.

Mills ordered Maine's health agency to adopt regulations to allow Mainers to enroll in Medicaid expansion and said she's seeking "expedited" approval of benefits retroactive to July 2. Mills' order also directs the department to work with lawmakers to provide "sustainable" funding for Maine's expansion costs.

KY still suffers under Matt Bevin, a trump sycophant who prototyped the work-for-medicaid cruelty.

We gotta boot Bevin this year.

Local tv station ran a piece in their 'news' segment, announcing Robert Goforth (R) seeking nomination for governor race. They didn't do that when Andy Beshear announced. I heard about Beshear from my son, who used to not give a damn about politics.

At least we have some good Dems running:

Nearly 8 of 10 people he comes in contact with daily are Repugs. You can guess what kind of stuff he has to hear. 2015 was a turning point for him -- he's actively educating people about the real differences between Democrats and Repugs.

It's so good to see positive effects in all the areas you list, since the midterms, and all because we got enough Dems in the right offices to make a difference.

he's learned a lot about politics since then. .

Yeah, I can imagine the kind of garbage.. with mitch McConnell and rand paul brainwashing susceptible Kentuckians, anyone?

So happy for your son getting into the fray.. we need all the help we can get!

Yes, it took all kinds of stripes of Dems all over the Country to get us our Blue Wave.

Not just one type.. we needed everybody.
