I mean she's rich, married, and beautiful and I'm...not.

Similar question IMO...unless she decides to go seriously slumming, not much I can do...and unless enough Republicans decide to become Americans again, not much Democrats can do.

for something that would probably never happen.

There's only one answer to the question, and that's to strike the best deal we can. Otherwise, the Rethuglicans will take the country down with them so far, that our next Democratic president will be severely crippled in bringing us back.

We now have a great method to oppose apathy of both our base, and the mushy middle who show up for an election only when they feel like it. "Remember when enough people felt the way you do about not voting, and we got TRUMP??!!"

Biding time until then is pretty much our best hope to get this ship righted again.

If he gets the wall, it will be touted as "doing business w him even though we knew he was russian" and in the future be used as justification to minimize what theyve done. No wall. We have to find a way to support a million plus soldiers on the front line right now, in the first Anglo-russian War.

it can be explained as having to do something to break the logjam, and get back to the business of running the country. It is also easier to explain if we get something in return, like backing off on deporting DACA beneficiaries.

The Cold War concept of mutually assured destruction only works when nobody launches a nuclear weapon. Otherwise, there is destruction. A compromise that re-opens the government, and shows how bad it can be to make poor choices at the ballot box (or no choice, for those eligible voters who stay home, or protest-vote for third parties) is the best we can salvage out of the situation right now.

We really can't afford to have a presidential emergency declared that is upheld by a stacked SCOTUS, that will be precedent for future misbehavior by subsequent GOP chief executives.

Hard to know. Maybe Pres Obama has a solution. Or Sec/Pres Clinton? Citizenry shouldn't have to be doing the negotiations. I think Spkr Pelosi has it allll dialed in.

we should let her know that no matter what she has to do to get the government open again, we're behind her, and trust that she got the best deal she could.

If a deal is made to give Trump half of his five billion, and we get DACA protection for three years (when we can get the White House back) that will be good enough for me, and a good way to convince the deplorables that Trurmp sold them out to "foreigners".

It seems that the more we attack Trump, the tighter they cling to him. It's not just an insane President we're dealing with, it's an insane base. The further we can wedge them apart, the faster we get the country back.

Its truly over our pay grade and our inside knowledge is lacking. Mrs Feinstein and Spkr Pelosi should know what needs to be done. Bigger brains than ours are working on this. Pres h Clinton would surly know some ideas I bet.

3. Three Things:
Sat Jan 12, 2019, 02:13 PM
Jan 2019

1. They have to convince enough Republicans in the House to get a 2/3rd majority vote to re-open the gov't.
2. Convince Mitch McConnell to allow a vote in the Senate.
3. Get 2/3 vote in the Senate to re-open the government.

Short of removing Trump from Office, that's what has to happen.

I didn't think so.

They'd be committing political suicide if they did that. They know that in the end, they can always blame other Senators for supporting Trump after it all crashes and burns.

don't fear prison, and they're absolutely shameless. When Corker and Flake left, they were replaced (not directly in the case of Flake) by even more dangerous Republicons.

We're not going to shame or intimidate them into doing anything, any more than Pelosi and Schumer would respond to those pressures if threatened.

It is said that politics is the art of the possible. Admittedly, that's becoming harder and harder to achieve, but it is the only way out. I strongly doubt that within the rest of my lifetime (I'm 63) that we will see the American people unify behind a President of either party. We've just become too splintered.

Focus on those up for reelection in 2020. We either need mcturtle to stop rolling over for trump, or for 2-3 republicans to defect and claim that the current republican party is no longer representing them or their constituents.

1. Fund the National Academy of Sciences to identify the technologies and their benefits to increase border security.
2, If a wall would give a substantial benefit, fund U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers to do an engineering feasibility study and environmental impact study. Obtain public comments. That will take several years.

But, Trump doesn't do his projects that way. He already knows how to build walls, seize property, buy cheap materials, employ cheap labor, whip the contractors to reduce bills, etc.

...funding to boost our current border security situation. Border patrol agents, technology improvements, etc. Don’t put a wall in it anywhere. Just pass as many “open the government” bills as they can.

At this point it’s already entirely on the Republicans...so the best Dems can do is appear as the reasonable group. Because, ya know, they are.

Get senate rethugs to battle each other. The solution is in the senate and ONLY McConnell is stopping it. We have to pressure the rest of the rethugs AGAINST the turtle!!!!! THAT"S our answer!!!
