My daughter and family sat next to them at a Yale football game a few years ago.
She immediately recognized Jane but not her husband.
After the game my daughter's husband told her who Pauley's husband was.

During the game Jane was very kind to my 6 year old grandson.
My daughter said she, Jane, had on heels and the weather was freezing. She put her feet in her tote to warm them up.
My daughter offered a blanket, but Jane declined.

When I think about the people who first helped me form my political identity as a teenager in the seventies, the first three names I think of are Garry Trudeau, Linda Ellerbee and Phil Donahue. I bought at least 20 years of Doonesbury compilations, and read them all over and over. The strip fell off over time, but he taught me a lot about applying critical thinking to politics, and I will always be grateful.

I never understood the appeal of Doonesbury. I really don't get its appeal. Somebody, please, explain. What am I missing?
