Under oath William Barr said . . .

Mueller should be allowed to finish his investigation and that a final report should be made to Congress and the American public. He will not play partisan politics, the matter needs to be resolved and the public needs to know the facts.

Score another round for the good guys!

2. Under oath? I don't think so. His confirmation hearings don't start until tomorrow.

I take his released statement with a grain of salt.

11. I would defend Barr's statement until

there is reason not to because frankly--we don't have a choice in the matter.

But for a lawyer with a pretty hefty reputation to protect, lying under oath would be a step to the far side. It explains why Rod Rosenstein (who we have largely come to trust) has not made loud squawking noises about Barr's nomination. Nor have the legal people on MSNBC; they've remained cautiously optimistic because of Barr's professionalism. This is despite several past comments and writings about executive power and privilege.

If Barr is confirmed (and everyone expects he will be) it means the asshole, compromised Whitaker is out of the DOJ loop. That's a good thing in my mind. So, these statements from Barr are at the very least encouraging. He didn't try to sidle around the question or give the standard, vague non-answer.

We shall see. But I'm feeling far less worried about this one.

15. IF he doesn't equivocate. It is NOT under oath NOW. That's the point.

Even if it were, he can run a transport truck through the loopholes he's included in that statement.

I should have written, 'the testimony he intends to offer tomorrow under oath.' As for the loopholes you mentioned? I feel reasonably certain, the back-and-forth grilling by Democratic members will focus specifically on anything they deem wobbly.

But in the end? He's more likely to be confirmed than not; he's assuring that Mueller's investigation will proceed to conclusion, results made public; and the unqualified, toady Whitaker will be put out to pasture.

Under Barr’s reading of the law, an obstruction case Mueller may be pursuing is “asinine.” He says results of Mueller’s report should be made public but nothing about its contents. And he has a view of presidential power that renders all of his promises moot.
