By Allan Smith
Freshman Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit President Donald Trump where it hurt on Monday mocking his wealth after the president had dismissed her recent comments about him with a "who cares?"
Trump was asked on the White House lawn about Ocasio-Cortez calling him a racist during a "60 Minutes" interview earlier this month in which the New York lawmaker said there was "no question" the president was racist. Trump responded, "Who cares?"
Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to respond soon after.

In a follow-up tweet, Ocasio joked that the 70 percent marginal tax rate she suggested be implemented on earning in excess of $10 million would not apply to Trump who claims to be a billionaire because he "probably hasn't made more than $10 million in years."

Oddly, I always assumed that whenever Trump saw AOC his only thought was "wife number 4".

(12,618 posts)"So Im watching television and I see this young woman on television and I say, 'Whos that?'" Trump said. "Oh, shes campaigning against Joe. You know who Joe is, right? Queens. Crowley. So, I say, ah, let me just watch her for a second. Wonderful thing, TiVo. So you go back. Hah. Tell him hes going to lose."
Trump still uses Tivo?
I know I'm a Luddite but I still use "TiVo" (sorta: Canadian satellite w/DVR)...um, is there something better/cheaper for an idjit like me?
Downtown Hound
(12,618 posts)It does the same thing. If you use a DVR, you're using something that does the same thing, but it's not Tivo. The original Tivo largely disappeared almost a decade ago. I'm betting Trump doesn't actually have a Tivo, he has a DVR. He just doesn't know it. Tivo was it's own company and you had to pay them to use it. Now, your cable or satellite company just tacks on a small fee to your bill and gives you a device that does the same thing.
I was afraid I had missed some big innovation by even more than the usual margin

(1,359 posts)Partner with cable companies and make their set-top boxes for them. That's what seems to have happened with Mediacom. All our boxes are clearly labelled TiVo and came with our cable service.
Love the TiVo, though. Not sure how any other brand could be much better short of just offering more tuners.

(59 posts)The DVR our cable company offers is tiny and you cant pop the case and do any mods. When we got our current TiVo we popped the case and put in a huge-ass drive so we never run out of room. Plus we can offload videos to an external drive so we can build a library of movies we want to keep. We dont need a cable box at all, just a card that pops into the TiVo.

(41,931 posts)... also you know how to fix it up nicely.
I had the old Tivo that wouldn't take a cable card and the memory was tiny. So I could either buy the new souped up Tivo, or buy a new DVR from my Verizon cable that already big memory in it. It was pretty much a toss-up on the cost, but what sealed the deal for me was that I could eliminate the $16 or $17 per month charge from Tivo and just break even on the Verizon DVR. That's what I've had for the last couple of years and it's been a good deal for me. My old Tivo is worthless because I'm no longer getting the service from them.

(3,818 posts)Legislating is hard work and running around with a camera/phone in hand instead of learning how the House works, how writing a Bill works, etc. True civil servants are never heard from, they are too busy working for the People, which is as it should be.
Before she was sworn in, cool, groovy. Now is when the hard work starts and it is something you do not learn overnight, especially if you have never had a state office, much less a city counsel seat.
Being a twitter, instagram, whatever, star is a case study in how not to legislate. Case in point - Drumpf
And no, you cannot do both, you need to make a decision as to where your time lies -- tweeting/instagraming or working. Especially since most of her platform is not new, and she needs to read up as to what happened in the past in that socialist democratic laws were knocked down and by whom, and how to get them passed.
There is whole history there, and in comes in more than 280 characters and pretty pictures.

(3,818 posts)which involves a lot of reading and learning about how gov't actually works, tit-for-tat tweets are childish and belong in middle school. It does not raise of the level of discourse. IMO, Ted Lieu is the one who really does it "right" in answering him. He doesn't goad he digs.
