The judge noted that this isnt going to be the final word on this. Up it goes to the 2nd Circuit, then SCOTUS most likely.

Our publication got a call 2 days ago from a Census person inquiring about how to get the word out about the Census in our publication. They are hiring starting in the next few weeks, I was told. He also admitted they are worried about low participation because of the citizenship question. That was before the judge's ruling.

There are similar cases moving through federal courts in other states. I hope they resolve this soon and that the Supreme Court does the right thing to get this fear-mongering question off of there.

Areas like ours, with high numbers of immigrants including refugees who came here legally as well as undocumented immigrants and others with visas rely on those federal funds and would be most hurt if people are too afraid of being deported to answer questions.

Federal judge ripped Commerce Sec Wilbur Ross for adding citizenship question to 2020 census, saying he "alternately ignored, cherry-picked, or badly misconstrued evidence" "acted irrationally" & basically lied about needing the question to enforce Voting Rights Act

Right now, the Supreme Court has a 5-4 vote dominated by the wingnuts.

Kennedy was the swing vote and he's gone.

The big question is, will Roberts, the Chief Justice, want to go down in history as a major racist prick?

He just may be the new "swing vote." I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Oral arguments start Feb 19.

Unfortunately, this particular judge is a datapoint, as there are multiple jurisdictions deciding, which is probably why the SC picked this up rather early.

This is a nice decision, but it's already moot since the SC has already granted cert.

Census doesn't need to know gender, ethnicity, income, anything like that. Just a simple head count would be good.
